That's a fair decision! Even I cleared IPMAT last year but due to high education cost and relatively low ROI, I left it. But it isn't a scam as said in the video Just do undergrad from a reputable college with lower fees and give CAT to again get into IIMs

I cracked it in 35 days with self study. Don't worry at all about covering the syllabus, it is just a game of choosing the right questions and then nailing the interview.

I converted my Indore seat this year with AIR 55. Had a low score of 206/360 but had a great interview. So ig I can answer this. Decent past acads are more important as the primary purpose to join any college is to study and that's what the interviewers see. Only extra curriculars at national level are a big achievement. Please watch professor Siddhartha Rastogi's video on univoyage, you'll get the crux of why acads are important.
