One of my Father's relative, ( had been alive he would have been about 155-160 years old) blind, a great musician who could play violin and 'Jalatharanga'. My mother had witnessed his music played in side the house. He was getting some yearly 'gift' amount by Maharaja Krishnaraja Odeyar, as he had exhibited his talent before Maharaja in some occasions. He might have heard oral incidents of Tippu Sultan in the palace in those days, which he might have told to my father and others. This is what I heard from my father. Divan Poornayya was his prime minister. A brahmin girl was raped by Muslim soldier/s. Complaint was lodged to Divan Poornayya. Poornayya complained to Tippu. Tippu answered. " Divanre, naayi muttida gadigeyannu nivu hege bisaaduthiro, haagene aa hudugiyannu bittubidi"

Whatever the historians distorted but india had an oral culture of transfering info & history, in my coastal region our ancestors made sure that Tippu was tyrant to us since childhood, this info was passed on for generations, we never believed text book nonsense even in 80’s & 90’s regarding Tippu , Dogs were commonly called tippu in our rural of our place .

Irony is the education ministry went to a Maulana ( a religious preacher of islam ) born to non - indian ancestry , he was born in Mecca as his mother was daughter of an arab preacher & his father had afghan decent .
