Exactly. When id talk about my hallucinations or hospitalizations people would say something like "oh yeah I'm like that to. Like when I got super depressed for like an hour after my favourite character died." No. Its nothing like that at all. Sooo many people in high-school faked mental illnesses to be "cool" or "quirky" and its disgusting. Actually the vast majourity that faked their problems did it for the medicine, which they then sold to other students. Meanwhile I couldn't get the medicine I needed because they accused me of being an addict, though unlike others in school I never asked for meds by name. I was mocked so much by so many people for my mental illness just to see them turn around and proudly tell everyone they are bipolar or something. Ive never met anyone who genuinely deals with mental health issues that would be proud to tell people their diagnosis. Sure I can say I'm schizoaffective here with anonymity, but in person I am so ashamed of myself and afraid of what people would think that I would never. The stigma around mental health would never allow me to feel safe telling anyone.

Yes, it can happen to anyone. Even with a very thick skin, there's a limit to everything. Actually the toughest you are the harder it is because when you keep holding for months, if not years, by the time it comes out, it's a tsunami. And the fact of not recognizing yourself in such behaviors, is probably the worst. Because those confusions lead to expectations of handling it and failing at it, which leads to frustration and shame. Fuck this person for recording it, it's more violent than punching this young man and kicking him in the face. I see people might realize that no one is protected from it. It's a 50/50 whether the customer if gonna scream at you or not. It's really stressful as an employee cuz you try to call the customer, they have no phone number on file, try to call expedia, they cant help till the customer gets there, try to call another hotel and hook them up, the other hotel is having the same problem. There is no winning and the stress of someone being so mad at you for something totally outside your control is bad enough without any mental health crisis.

The customers wouldn't know what to do and I would have to show up and talk to her and even give her an extra break just to get her head together, sometimes it was little things that would trigger her BUT I worked with her on that and it went from like a once a week kind of thing to two weeks and now it's been a whole year and I haven't seen an episode once, she's progressed incredibly well and I'm proud of her, I even explained to her that the company pays for some counseling so if she needed to talk, she had someone professional to go to and that helped, she didn't know this before I got there but overall my point is, as a leader you have to care about your crew and not only challenge them but also try different strategies to help them succeed. Now when i work with her she brings a strong positive attitude towards her job that I'll catch her singing and joking around even so that she's looking to move up with the company. But in reality, more people than that (typically sub-30 year olds I’ve noticed) just “play along” in order to get attention and validation, after which when they receive it, they fall into a feedback loop of “I need attention; I got attention on Social Media; Now I need _more_ attention” which feeds into a different part of the brain that causes its own mental issues particularly affecting personality and self-control. Personally, it would have been a moment of compassion for me but you can't judge another person's choices. There have been several socalled Black man shot down or otherwise murdered in situations that started out like this. Keep recording because you need to protect yourself but my family, my people always look to de-escalate first if possible. My question is - WHERE was management???? The hotel failed this worker AND these customers who did NOT come into this establishment to be abused (even if it is true this guy has mental issues) nor to have the literal poo scared out of them.
@TheScience693 жыл бұрын
@@nativesunnation8323 I dno man. how many of the black men shot do you think would have been avoided if the black man hadn't provoked the situation, if the situation started like this? (don't take that as "it was the black persons' fault", I don't mean it like that at all) I get where you're coming from and I can tell your hearts in the right place, but to me it seems like trying to de escalate the situation while sticking a camera in his face is counter productive, especially with the way the world is these days. If it was me, I'd assume that you where filming for social media, and I can see that if someone is already having a mental episode and was having difficulty thinking straight, that could make things worse. the thing is...is there any real reason that the black dude needed to be in the store and couldn't walk away? the employee doesn't have that option, but the black dude could leave, give the white dude a minute and then maybe phone the store and resolve your problem that way, calmly. maybe wait to phone until you can speak to a manager. When I see video's like this, I cant help notice that the video always starts in the middle rather than the beginning, and we never actually know what caused it. all context gets edited out of the video, which makes me wonder what got cut off the start.

That was my first thought after having dealt with a fair number of people with mental health issues. The guy with the camera is incredibly lucky the front desk worker took it out on himself. He'd have sung a different tune if that guy came across the desk at him with something pointy. I've seen it happen. Not a pleasant way to go.

It's an anger control mechanism. It's either that or punch the other person. The society we live in no longer has the mechanisms for aholes and other tormentors to be properly dealt with by their targets. The targets have to sit there and take it. It's been like that starting in the schools for a good 40 years + now. People are free to treat others like crap with little fear of consequences.

@Jeff Depends on the state. Most states (38 + D.C.) have one-party consent which (surprise) means as long as the person recording wants to record, then it can be recorded.

Yes, each time I see images of slavery and ignorance within poverty driven communities. It’s actually a mental breakdown on display. Yet, our society have been able to live with it.
@omgvague3 жыл бұрын
@Jeff There are other laws that could come into play (such as harassment, or a "no recording in this area" regulation, or defamation, etc. depending on the context) but no, recording someone who denies consent in any of those areas that allow one-party consent is not a crime itself.

@@nordictripods8485 well put. I work in home health aid and I have seen it. Me myself as a child and for instance punching a wall as a man means I'm overwhelmed and frustrated. When I feel that way and I'm beating myself up I don't need someone to push me into it. It's hard to believe that every person commenting has felt this way. If a person goes through life never blaming themselves or beating themselves up then that person as an even more severe disorder in that they can't feel. This is a big reason why people shoot groups of people. We can't change unless we understand all sides. Society is sicker then any individual could ever be.
