Ipswich, Suffolk【4K】| Town Centre Walk 2021

Good evening! And thank you for tuning in for this walk around the county town of Suffolk, and possibly the oldest English town: Ipswich! There's so much history to be found in Ipswich, and we only just scratched the surface with this walk. One thing we didn't touch on too much was the town's long history in the arts, as it was famed as a place where the painters John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough lived and gained much inspiration for their works. Charles Dickens also visited many a time too, and the town is now linked with worldwide music superstar Ed Sheeran, brought up in nearby Framlingham :)

Born, brought up and still living here. Thanks for the upload (I was this many years old when I found out the Meeting house had a courtyard and a cut through to St Nicholas Street!). It's amazing how much history is here, you could never fit it all in one walk, so well done covering what you did! Some notable and honorably mentions - you missed out the Great White Horse Hotel (which featured in Dickens' "The Pickwick Papers"). The Regent Theatre - opened 1929 and one of the first theatres in the country to have movies with sound, imagine! The old County Hall, which was where Mrs. Wallis Simpson (of King Edward VIII fame) came to have her divorce hearing heard in 1936. And finally the shrine of Our Lady of Ipswich, St. Mary at the Elms, which was a popular English Marian shrine before the English Reformation destroyed it. There's so much here...

Thanks for the walk and talk. I left Ipswich for Australia in 1977. Wow, how some of the place has changed! Thankfully much of it is as I remember. I hope to revisit one day( funds willing) and show the town off to my wife who has watched your video beside me with interest.

Thank-you for showcasing one of our towns in a positive light, Ipswich has been randsacked with foreigners, drugs, fly tipping, death of the high street plague and stabbings over the past decade, many locals don't feel safe going into the town centre anymore it's a real tradgedy and Ipswich councils lack of any kind of effort to restore the town or even bother to take care of it beyond the water front is depressing to say the least. It's a beutiful town that's been destroyed by "other cultures" quite frankly, so many boarded up or smashed up buidlings or vape/turkish barber/candy shops all over the place, really sad. Some of the places you've highlighted have a huge significance to the local people and history, we've had some incredible talent born from Ipswich. Thank-you.

Ah! Stabwich. Place is a right dump. Used to be a nice town 40-50 years ago. Local Council don't have a Scooby. I live 10 minutes away, and avoid it like Syphilis.

Lived as a child in Cobbold Street & Fonnereau Road in the early 60's - Christchurch Park & The Arboretum was like our garden!

@@makaniistorm8664 The park is so different now especially the arboretum. Loads of places where creeps used to hang out... it's all cut back now &, of course, rightly so. But the magicical feeling we had as kids has gone. But Fonnereau Road looks almost identical still & was one of my favourite places to live as a child! Do you know Ipswich?

I live in Ipswich. It’s got its good parts and bad parts. It has quite the history and I love walk Haven/Beacon Marina and looking at the reminisce of the old port. But they really need to put some money into the town and have more independent shops open up like St Peter’s street

I lived there back in 1972 it was my husband's home town. I worked at Courders department store in the butter market part of town. My mother-in-law found me a job at churchman's cigar factory over looking the football ground. It only lasted a few months, until I worked again has a window dresser in the department store. Then had to move again some months later because of my husband's job.

A small world! I watched the video to reminisce and show my wife the town I left to head for Australia. I used to work( as an apprentice) in Raymond's hair salon in Corders! From 1971 till 1974. I wonder if we ever met. Names Geoff.

For visiting tourists I would recommend the Bramford and Norwich rd end of town, The new Maple park is an amazing place to visit, A true jewel in Ipswich's crown. Also please do come to the Council estates and see how we live, I recommend Whiton, Gainsborough, With The Dikon's estate being the best with it's numerous shops and views. The local estate pubs are very friendly these days, With a more modern and open approach to visiting clients and customers. Please enjoy your stay as much as I did.

23:45, a 2011 Wolsey statue , modern sculptors do not know how to sculpt and carve drapery in bronze. This gown is just an amorphous and shapeless mass. Neither Ipswich nor Wolsey deserve such statue.

And today its full of "legitimate businesses" everybody knows you need several phone accessories and repair shops, vape shops and an abundance of barbers along one town centre ...let's not forget the smack heads and illegal immigrants as well!! The town centre is a complete shitehole nowadays!
