One big advantage that Light has over other characters like L and Near is his sociability and charisma. Higuchi is quite intelligent, especially in the manga, but he is superficial and he can't handle the pressure at all and a good part of the members of the yotsuba suspected it was Kira due to his ruthless nature.

However, this has been proven to be a mistranslation that was actually meant to rank knowledge, which Light likely only wins in because of his knowledge of the Deathnote. When it comes down to overall intelligence, the writer did say L was the smartest character.

@@mastour722lights advantages came with disadvantages, the connection to light’s father gave L the idea he was somehow connected to the police, Misa was stupid and was the reason light was the prime suspect in the first place, if Misa hadn’t exposed herself to mogi and later L, then L wouldn’t have concrete evidence to suspect Light in the first place, but her being careless and leaving dna evidence was pretty much the nail in the coffin. The only reason light even considered keeping her company was because she was revealing too much information about the death note, and rem threatened to kill him if he didn’t protect her, in the end light had no choice. People always seem to forget this, one of the biggest reasons L caught on to light was because of unavoidable circumstances.

I dont know why you are so obsessive on L, i mean he is smart guy, but accept the truth that Light which is Kira is the smartest in the anime, even author says. And no one could last that long how he did. @@desiconvicted exactly, totally agreed. Light was fighting alone without any help. Even the shinigami of the note was neutral, which i found so dumb of plot. Like cmon writer, they spent so much time having fun, and Ryuk still says he wont help, where is logic?? And he has worlds best detective, japanese police and fbi working together in front of him. Like how can people still talk? :D he even died because of mikami, not because of his own fault. To be honest, i love death note, but i hate, how in plot everything was written like detectives predicted everything right on every move. I mean even in real life detectives made mistakes, they suspect and it takes so much time to get a result. But here L and Near was always on the spot, no suspicion, but light is kira :D like wtf man its impossible even if u 200 iq. I really find it absurd for a crime/action show.

L only died because of that Rem Shinigami. Light failed to discover L's full name. Therefore, if Rem had not agreed to kill L, L would have never died and of course, then L would have won because if Light can't kill L, then L would defeat him. Many people say that Light outsmarted L but if Light was in L's place then he would have lost too because who would have thought that there is a notebook of death that kills people? The Death Note had so many rules. Moreover, L was forced to show his face. If he had not been forced to show his face, then even Rem would have found it impossible to kill L. Not only that, he was even forced to end Light's confinement. Light had a lot of support and options than L- 1. Soichiro Yagami and the task force members (specially Matsuda) were leaned towards Light. Remember how Aizawa left? Soichiro Yagami was Light's biggest advantage. This has been mentioned by Light. 2. Misa Amane: She was stupid and only cared about dating Light. However, she had the Shinigami eyes so she was also an advantage for Light. And of course, she was leaned towards Light too. 3. Rem: The one who killed L. She loved Misa and Misa loved Light. Therefore, Rem had to take Light's side. So we can count her as an another ally for Light. 4. Ryuk: He said that he is neither on Light's side nor L's side. But he did tell light about the 64 cameras installed in his room and that a person is following him. Ryuk never took Light's side. He told Light about the cameras because he wanted to eat his apples. He told Light about being followed and watched because it was bugging Ryuk as well. However, the fact that he told Light about the cams and the person following him is another thing in favour of Light and another thing against L. So basically, L had nobody to help him. Not even Watari because Watari never actually participated in the investigation. All he did is serve L food and shoot Higuchi's vehicle. Of course, Aiber and Wedy cannot be considered as an advantage for L. They were introduced very late and that too for just the Yotsuba group.
