There will never be another Iqbal Banu, Beautiful composition of Inayat Husain, with dholki, baja, saranghi on lyrics of Qateel Shifai toped up with Iqbal Bano’s peculiar style and divine voice with honey sweet depth.She had indeed brought Delhi to Pakistan along with her. “ham bhi hain wahin, tum bhi ho wahi, ye apni-apni qismat hai tum khel rahe ho khushiyon se, ham dub gaye hain a’ahon mein Dil todne waale dekh ke chal…………….” My father in his times was an ardent fan of her, and today, me, the generation next still feel her voice embodied somewhere in my soul.

what command.... I've seldom seen this level of command on highs and lows like Iqbal Bano did.. rest in peace. and what a lucky man I am to have seen her mehfil live. sang 22 ghazals with a small interval straight. at what age.. 70 perhaps. rest in peace.

Waqas it was a mehfil arranged by Standard Chartered for its customers. It was mesmerizing and i would admit back then when i had not heard all of Iqbal Bano but just the usual they show. She didnt sing my all time favorite "Muddat huee hai yar ko mehman kiyay huay". when i asked her why she said, this audience not suitable for it... ofcourse tea was served while she was performing... instead of wah wah,, there were applauds...what disaster for any artiste. But im still lucky i was sitting right in front of her.. Khuda unki maghfirat farmai....

While scanning through channel after disappointing channel on an evening, to my great delight I had Pakistan TV channel telecasting a live interview with Iqbal Bano in which to take my pleasure beyond the brim I could hear the great lady's two memorable ghazals, "Payal nahin mera chan chanke" and "Ulfat ki nayi manzil ko chala". Her grace in singing is to be seen to be believed. Indeed, these courtsies of a bygone age leave a sad nostalgia for the past in one's mind that has gone away from present age forever.

Beautiful memories, when I used to hear this song on the radio of neighbors , while growing up in a small city Renala Khurd , Punjab, Pakistan. We had no radio. On neighbors radio this song used to be loud, in the evenings. This song brings back those lovely childhood- boyhood memories. Lovely song, lovely singer, lovely memories.

Yes, I too heard this and its companion piece Payal Mein Geet Hain Cham Cham ke.. on Radio Ceylon in the 1960's/70's a few times and have been mesmerised by the sheer beauty of their lyrics by Qateel and their memorable rendition by Iqbal Bano. Later I happened to see the recorded video version of these songs on Pakistan TV relayed in New Delhi on the cable.
