Everything in this course was nice and clean. One thing though is please show how to do it without the library maybe? It makes understanding what you did in the program easier and allows for me to be able to modify and write my own code. I've never coded using the arduino, only the PIC18f4580 so i have no idea if using libraries is a common practice. (edit) is there a way to detect how close something is?

Ancient lawz Libraries are commonly used, so this was just to introduce them. The output to the infrared led is a continuous 38 KHz PWM signal (50% duty cycle), so nothing fancy.

Hi @PyroElectro, how do you know at what frequency to feed the IR led for the PWM? Do we have to refer to the datasheet of the LED? I have a project that requires the use of IR Proximity sensor but I am stuck at PWM part. Also, what about the aplification & bandpass filtering part? I am having trouble with all that. Hope you can help me out!
