***** Did you read what I wrote? Saddam, yes. But not Iran. Dont blame Iran. Iran was simply a victim of Saddam and Iran defended itself with honour. And Iran is very well advanced FOR the odds against it. 90% of the limitations of Iran and Iraq is because of the US because US sanctioned us. So dont say that we're limited. Iran does not own anything , These people all were and are still people of Persian Empire, Baghdad was Persias capital once in the history. I believe we should all be united and hold the security of the region together, no need for foreign people to come here and eat our food that there will be less food for the people of this region, I hope USA and Europeans find proper jobs for their men and women insted of making murdurers of them. And I hope for the people of my region to eat less animals and become vegeterian so that they dont act like animals, of course for the americans and europeans I have the same wish.

As a 45 yrs old Iranian, I must tell my side story into this, the only true jubilant party in this was was Israeli and American and other European and even Soviet allies (for the moment) of Iraq, these folks created the enmity between these two brother nations, fueling a nonsense war for 8 years cheering for Saddam Hussain just to destroy him 2 years after that when he was tricked into attacking Kuwait. About 1 million of fine folks, women and children perished, joy? Neither of those countries should have been joyful...it was pathetic murder spree for the strength of Zionist war mongers, Iranians and Iraqis and even all Arabs Christian's and Muslims are brothers and sisters.. The Iranian extremist Islamic regime ruled for 40 years and caused so much troubles and chaos in the whole area, so it is time to make things right, it is time to correct the path, and build new systems and laws able to provide justice, dignity, and freedom for the Iraqi people and Iranian people regardless religion, race, or nationalism origins. Over 70 percent of Ba’ath party members were of Shiite background. Saddam was very hard on Islamists whether they’re sunnis or Shiites. Since Iran convinced and aided Iraqi shites to rebel. They started committing terrorist attacks that targeted movie theaters and universities in the eighties. The government cracked down on Shiite Islamists which results in many of them being imprisoned, tortured and executed.

It's just too bad that Iran has gotten a corpse of a country. Iraq was a beautiful country full of talented people who've either left or been murdered. It's a real tragedy. And the only benefit to Iran of having Iraq under its influence is to protect it from whatever crazy shit the US tries next. To think that Iran's influence in Iraq today is some sort of delayed revenge against Saddam's early '80s shittiness is satisfying on some level but incorrect and dangerous. Iran's revenge against Iraq was delivered by the US from 1991 onward. If there's any revenge to be taken out, it deserves to be taken out on Saudi Arabia by both Iraq AND Iran for constantly advancing imperialist interests in the region.

I believe he served a short term as Saddam's deputy, but had to retire due to disagreement with Saddam. Saddam however allowed him to live despite their differences. Later he became the assembly speaker and reappeared on KZbin denouncing the sanctions that caused many Iraqi children to die. He survived the fall of Saddam and died several years later. He was elderly by the time of his death. If more Westerners knew about him maybe the 2003 war would not have happened.

" Iraq was so desperate that they used Chemical weapon inside their own soil that also killed many Iraqi civilians". SHAME, by far Saddam is considered as one of the biggest losers on earth - Yet it wasn't the weapons that came to rescue Iraq,it was the united nations 598 resolution that helped Iraq losing control. Crazy to think that the Middle East was a hell of a lot more secular 35-65 years ago then it is now in the 21st century. Obviously that has a lot to do with the second Iraq war, '79 Iran revolution, Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, '53 CIA backed coup in Iran (which was a disaster and done solely for the bidding of the elite to put a Pro American leader in and to take a democratically elected leader out), and we could probably start this endeavor with the 1947 war with Israel starting their land grab and occupation for the last half a dozen decades plus. I love my country but these idiot politicians, lobbyist, the MSM, religious neocon right wingers, and the M.I.C have a big hand in messing up and destabilizing the Middle East. Of course there's other countries, history, Sunni/ Shiite riff, and other factors as well that started/ intensified this radical element. I hope to live to see the day where a Ron Paul gets elected and we can bring all of our brave men and women home and shut down these military bases all over the world. We have no worries of another country coming to attack us at home. That is a ridiculous notion, we have arguably the strongest military the world has ever known and is really not our position to police the world. Obviously we would trade and keep good relationships with other countries, but I don't see why we have to get into these conflict. Yes, I understand the possibilities and scenarios that could happen if the United States would leave the world stage but, why can't the E.U. pick up some slack instead of just the US stepping in while they can use their tax money at home instead of building up a formidable military force. Anyway I'm going to stop here this comment has gone on too long and there is still so many more factors but that's just how I feel right now lol.

CATASTROPHIC decision! Iraq's UN ambassador Al-Ali said that Iran's foreign minister Yazdi was committed to a peaceful resolution of any issue with Iraq (in 1979), but Saddam saw it as a chance to win a quick easy victory against a weakened post-Revolution Iran. It was a big mistake and the Iranians united and fought back successfully. But Iran also made a big mistake in rejecting any peace offering in 1982 and continuing the war for another 6 bloody years. Nothing good came from that war. Only America & Israel benefited.

They are extremely influinced by the past " Persian empire" , and they kept acting this way til the moment , any way happened or will happen its because of their threatening and interferes in others affairs.

Actually no Iranians are very content with their current borders. We are just sick and tired of these arab countries which did not exist 100 years ago and were formed by the british after the fall of the ottoman empire, trying to claim iranian islands , Ahvaz and the Persian gulf..... dont forget Iran has been a nation state for over 2500 years and your countries have existed for nation states for less than 100 years!

I wonder if you can get the book 'Secret Affairs' by Mark Curtis, in Iran, Iraq, and the other countries in the region... It's an invaluable exposé of the real agenda behind Western foreign policy - would be a good addition to any school curriculum, I believe.

cara vaggio Not the easiest subject matter to condense - but I'll try......... Broadly speaking, London's methodology remained much akin to "the days of empire" - i.e. "local help needed to keep the lid on local populations" and retain access to resources, ideally at 'bargain prices'. But some changes were evident in the period after world war 2 - when it became apparent that in various countries, very religious/traditional groups within societies could be used as a counter to Communism, and parties which saw value in aligning with the Soviets - - not 'rocket science' as Communism is an Atheist ideology. A similar model also being deployed against Nationalist minded people(s) - who showed an interest in 'secular' politics - which would remove power from 'the church'. Generally speaking, this practice involved supplying deeply religious groups with large amounts of money, and arms, and utilizing them as agents against national administrations - Nasser being one such target - a staunch opponent of London's colonialism in Egypt. Though the countries of North Africa, and the Middle East are prominent in this methodology/history, London utilized similar tactics across the globe, often resulting in grave consequences for local populations. As London's global power fell, DC continued with similar tactics. Viewed as a long chronology, recent history in the Middle East is of particular interest - where one attempts to draw links between the prominent groups of earlier periods, and the groups now attracting the 'headlines' - i.e. what parallels might we draw, and what might we conclude as being 'on the agenda' of London, and DC, as we see various countries torn apart amid turmoil, and chaos? Where populations are set against each other, countries can be weakened to the extent that their natural resources can be stripped away, presumably quite cheaply (and with much of the cost being paid by Western tax payers in any case!), with minimal resistance to agents working for external parties - be they states, or corporations. .......................................................................................................................................................... A 'story' repeated so many times now, that it's almost a cliché - vile, greedy people in key positions of power, aiding and abetting other vile and greedy people of the corporate world, so that assets can be appropriated, at 'bargain basement' prices, and with zero regard for the murder and mayhem thrust upon local populations. Perhaps the sickest part of it all, it is possible that without external machination, many of the pertinent countries might well have moved on to secular, democratic forms of government by now - and we might not have seen the 'blow back' of the West's backing of the various groups in question. Though the cynical might conclude that the 'blow back' has itself being useful for corrupt, Western elites, as they see value in policing populations with surveillance, etc, and encourage a certain 'hysteria', perhaps to fashion excuse for their actions, and perhaps to draw attention away from their own rotten agendas.

@@kwakkers68 how naive are you, you in fact present a thorough case study on the finer points of how the dirty business of geopolitics work, but I fail to see how you draw your highly negative conclusion from any of that, as it seems like America and Britain are practitioners of fairly common methods, for the purpose of enriching their countries, their citizens, and for the corrupt, themselves. But there is nothing out of the ordinary about that, perhaps certain elements are lamentable but in geopolitics if you aren’t gaining you are losing. I don’t see how this could be viewed as negative, unless you are some kind of communist or pacifist or whatever

Islamic Iran held US diplomats hostage. Islamic Iran was given a list of Communists by the CIA and MI6, Iran executed everyone on that list. At that time the Ayatolah saw the USSR, USA, Israel and Saudi Arabia as enemies. 1979-1981 Iran was bigoted and antagonistic towards everyone.
