Iraq’s Mandaeans celebrate baptism feast

One of Iraq's religious minority groups which has survived for centuries is now rapidly disappearing.
Iraq’s Mandaeans, or Sabean-Mandaeans as they are known in Arabic, practise a distinct and ancient monotheistic religion which predates Islam and Christianity. This week they observed one of their holiest rituals, Panja (Benja).
The celebration took place in the Tigris river, where many Mandaeans submerged in the running waters to cleanse their bodies and wash away their sins.
Mandaeans fears extinction unless their traditions and people are protected.
Al Jazeera’s Osama Bin Javaid reports from the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

Proof that they are misguided polytheists that should pay the Jizyah in order to be allowed to practice this, can be seen at the contradiction between their grand priest's statement and claim that they do not associate partners with Allah vs their beliefs in 1:09 "And mandeans say all good comes from a world of light and all evil from the world of darkness." Ibn Abu Hatim and Abu Shaykh recorded from Mujahid رحمهم الله who said that: نزلت هذه الآية في الزنادقة "These Ayat (i.e Opening Verses of Surah Al-An'aam) were revealed regarding the Zanaadiqah (heretics): ﴿ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَجَعَلَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ وَٱلنُّورَ‌ۖ﴾ All praise be to Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth, and He originated the darkness and the light... Rather He only created Nur (light) and everything that is good (and beautiful).' " فأنزل فيهم هذه الآية So these Ayat (Opening Verses of Al-An'aam) was revealed regarding them." [Dhurr Al-Manthur of As-Suyuti 4/29] And As-Suyuti رحمه الله also mentioned that Abu Shaykh رحمه الله recorded from Mujahid رحمه الله that he said: نزل جبريل مع سبعين ألف ملك معهم سورة الأنعام ، لهم زجل من التسبيح والتكبير والتهليل والتحميد "Jibreel (Gabriel) عليه السلام descended with seventy thousand angels along with Surah Al-An'aam, raising their voices with Tasbeeh (SubhanAllah), Takbeer (Allahu Akbar), Tahleel (La ilaha illa-Allah), and Tahmeed (Alhamdulillah)." Mujahid عليه السلام commented: Allah said: ﴿ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ﴾ All praise be to Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth... [Al-An'aam 6:1] فكان فيه رد على ثلاثة أديان منهم In this (opening Ayah of Al-An'aam) is a Radd (refutation) against three religions, among them: فكان فيه رد على الدهرية لأن الأشياء كلها دائمة "In it is a Radd (refutation) against the Dahriyah (materialists) because (they claim) that all things existed forever (i.e. the world did not have beginning)." Then Allah said: ﴿وَجَعَلَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ وَٱلنُّورَ﴾ And He originated the darkness and the light... [Al-An'aam 6:1] فكان فيه رد على المجوس الذين زعموا أن الظلمة والنور هما المدبران "In it is a Radd (refutation) against the Majoos (magians) who claimed that darkness and light are both regulators (of the world). (i.e. similar to pagan dualism, horus vs seth, yin vs yang, or the christian god only creating good and satan being a rival creator of evil.)" Then Allah said: ﴿ثُمَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِرَبِّہِمۡ يَعۡدِلُونَ﴾ Yet those who disbelieve hold others as equal with their Lord. [Al-An'aam 6:1] فكان فيه رد على مشركي العرب ، ومن دعا دون الله إلهاً "In it is a Radd (refutation) against the pagan arabs, and whoever invokes another god besides Allah." [Dhurr Al-Manthur of As-Suyuti 4/29]

No they are not. This is a racist religion. They don't respect anyone but themselves but want our compassion. I wasted 7 years of my life with a boyfriend who is a Mandean. He lived with me and was using me for my money. His family knew about me and even sent me gifts but one day the guy simply left and never came back to my country where we lived together. He broke with me over a text and blocked my number. I know he's married now to a Mandean girl and his mother told him to break up with me. No reason to like them or admit them as refugees to other countries as they simply don't want to integrate. Mandeans are not a Western problem.

Rather He only created Nur (light) and everything that is good (and beautiful).' " فأنزل فيهم هذه الآية So these Ayat (Opening Verses of Al-An'aam) was revealed regarding them." [Dhurr Al-Manthur of As-Suyuti 4/29] And As-Suyuti رحمه الله also mentioned that Abu Shaykh رحمه الله recorded from Mujahid رحمه الله that he said: نزل جبريل مع سبعين ألف ملك معهم سورة الأنعام ، لهم زجل من التسبيح والتكبير والتهليل والتحميد "Jibreel (Gabriel) عليه السلام descended with seventy thousand angels along with Surah Al-An'aam, raising their voices with Tasbeeh (SubhanAllah), Takbeer (Allahu Akbar), Tahleel (La ilaha illa-Allah), and Tahmeed (Alhamdulillah)." Mujahid عليه السلام commented: Allah said: ﴿ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ﴾ All praise be to Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth... [Al-An'aam 6:1] فكان فيه رد على ثلاثة أديان منهم In this (opening Ayah of Al-An'aam) is a Radd (refutation) against three religions, among them: فكان فيه رد على الدهرية لأن الأشياء كلها دائمة "In it is a Radd (refutation) against the Dahriyah (materialists) because (they claim) that all things existed forever (i.e. the world did not have beginning)." Then Allah said: ﴿وَجَعَلَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ وَٱلنُّورَ﴾ And He originated the darkness and the light... [Al-An'aam 6:1] فكان فيه رد على المجوس الذين زعموا أن الظلمة والنور هما المدبران "In it is a Radd (refutation) against the Majoos (magians) who claimed that darkness and light are both regulators (of the world). (i.e. similar to pagan dualism, horus vs seth, yin vs yang, or the christian god only creating good and satan being a rival creator of evil.)" Then Allah said: ﴿ثُمَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِرَبِّہِمۡ يَعۡدِلُونَ﴾ Yet those who disbelieve hold others as equal with their Lord. [Al-An'aam 6:1] فكان فيه رد على مشركي العرب ، ومن دعا دون الله إلهاً "In it is a Radd (refutation) against the pagan arabs, and whoever invokes another god besides Allah." [Dhurr Al-Manthur of As-Suyuti 4/29]

Rather He only created Nur (light) and everything that is good (and beautiful).' " فأنزل فيهم هذه الآية So these Ayat (Opening Verses of Al-An'aam) was revealed regarding them." [Dhurr Al-Manthur of As-Suyuti 4/29] And As-Suyuti رحمه الله also mentioned that Abu Shaykh رحمه الله recorded from Mujahid رحمه الله that he said: نزل جبريل مع سبعين ألف ملك معهم سورة الأنعام ، لهم زجل من التسبيح والتكبير والتهليل والتحميد "Jibreel (Gabriel) عليه السلام descended with seventy thousand angels along with Surah Al-An'aam, raising their voices with Tasbeeh (SubhanAllah), Takbeer (Allahu Akbar), Tahleel (La ilaha illa-Allah), and Tahmeed (Alhamdulillah)." Mujahid عليه السلام commented: Allah said: ﴿ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ﴾ All praise be to Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth... [Al-An'aam 6:1] فكان فيه رد على ثلاثة أديان منهم In this (opening Ayah of Al-An'aam) is a Radd (refutation) against three religions, among them: فكان فيه رد على الدهرية لأن الأشياء كلها دائمة "In it is a Radd (refutation) against the Dahriyah (materialists) because (they claim) that all things existed forever (i.e. the world did not have beginning)." Then Allah said: ﴿وَجَعَلَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ وَٱلنُّورَ﴾ And He originated the darkness and the light... [Al-An'aam 6:1] فكان فيه رد على المجوس الذين زعموا أن الظلمة والنور هما المدبران "In it is a Radd (refutation) against the Majoos (magians) who claimed that darkness and light are both regulators (of the world). (i.e. similar to pagan dualism, horus vs seth, yin vs yang, or the christian god only creating good and satan being a rival creator of evil.)" Then Allah said: ﴿ثُمَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِرَبِّہِمۡ يَعۡدِلُونَ﴾ Yet those who disbelieve hold others as equal with their Lord. [Al-An'aam 6:1] فكان فيه رد على مشركي العرب ، ومن دعا دون الله إلهاً "In it is a Radd (refutation) against the pagan arabs, and whoever invokes another god besides Allah." [Dhurr Al-Manthur of As-Suyuti 4/29]

Predates Christianity isn't correct. It is the same age as Christianity. It's centered around John the Baptist. My theory is that after John was imprisoned and executed. His followers continue to practice his sect independent of Jesus. What's important from a Historical perspective is that it points to Jesus as an actual Historical Figure.
