Iraq Says “Outlaw Elements” Fired Rockets At Syrian Military Base Housing US Soldiers
According to Iraqi security forces, rockets were fired at a military base in Syria that houses US soldiers. Reports suggest that at least five rockets were fired at US-led coalition Kharab al-Jir base in northeastern Syria. The US has around 900 soldiers deployed in Syria as part of an international coalition that was created in 2014 to fight the Islamic State terror group. Iraqi security forces said that the rockets were fired from northern Iraq's Zummar town by “outlaw elements”. Iraqi security forces claim to have found the “vehicle used in the attack” in northern Nineveh province. The attack comes a day after an explosion was reported at Iraq's Kalsu military base in Babylon province that killed one. The latest attack marks first major strike on coalition forces in several weeks and comes amidst rising Israel-Iran tensions.
