Baggio was well onside. If you pause the action @3.49, the ball, in flight, can be seen on the right-hand-side of the screen. Baggio was approx half a yard on side. Italy was also robbed of Berti's goal (great header off a fantastic Baggio pass) in the third place game against England.

No it was not offside, neither was the 89 minute goal that was also ruled out. I am from Ireland but we were well beaten here, only one chance on target (Quinn, from a super cross by McGrath). 3-0 would not have flattered Italy. They should have won this world cup, leaving Roberto Baggio on the bench until extra time against Argentina has to be one of the most baffling decisions ever taken by a manager. Maybe he was not fully fit (not surprising given some of the tackling here).

Ho 50 anni e di tutte le nazionali che ho visto giocare per me questa del 90 era la piu' forte . Siamo arrivati in semifinale senza subire un goal e per una papera( non me ne voglia Zenga ) siamo usciti contro l'Argentina. Eravamo i favoriti a vincere il mondiale. Vi faccio solo dei nomi e poi decidete voi se non era la piu' forte come gruppo e come giocatori: Zenga ( uno dei portieri piu' forti nella storia ), Baresi il RE, Bergomi il muro, Ferri un'altro muro, Maldini leggenda, Vierchowood un mostro, Ancelotti top al centro campo, Tacconi come secondo portiere immaginate e Pagliuca terzo, Giannini il principe magico, Baggio e che ve lo dico a fare, Donadoni super, Mancini, Schillaci e Vialli. Insomma eravamo pieni di super calciatori .

Vittorie striminzite e sofferte contro Austria, USA ed Eire, non certo il Gotha del calcio mondiale, tutte le più forti dall'altra parte del tabellone e quando ci fu un dubbio il sorteggio mise l'EIre nella parte giusta, a scapito dell'Olanda. Un arbitro che durante la semifinale dimentica di fischiare la fine del primo tempo supplementare... Io direi che di certo non ci andò male, c'è molta narrazione intorno a questa nazionale, che fu molto spinta.

Italy should've qualified as a group of Netherlands-Germany-Italy would've been epic.

@@elmariachi11 Not from Ireland (don't make assumptions, lad ;) )and not making excuses - just telling it how it is. And even if I was from Ireland, that would have zero relevance to my point. It was far harder to qualify back then than it is now. Italy shouldn't have qualified - they weren't good enough. But nowadays they'd have been through in 2nd or even lower. Those qualifiers were all played before the collapse of the Soviet Union, were they? Only 7 teams qualified back then, so the pressure was on all the time. Not like today where average teams can get through in 2nd or 3rd or via other methods.

Italy was by far one the top 5 teams in the world around that time, 3rd best tied with France around 92, the Serie A was strongest and best league in the world and attracted all the big stars, seriously, La Liga was nothing in comparison and the "Premier League" didn't even exist. There was zero reason for Italy no to have easily qualified for Euro 92, but laziness and stupid internal quarrelling, as it is still today, was their downfall.

Why the poor editing on the goal, disappointing as I've wanted to use in my stories but can't because of the dismal editing of the goal's buildup. Also some of the goals that were ruled out are missing the buildup and we can't see that they were in fact wrongly ruled for offside. I'd say Ireland's chance where they were wrongly called for offside would not have resulted in a penalty, even in this soft woke era with VAR, but Italy would certainly have had at least three goals.
