A great video - I love it. It says so much - it tells an attractive story - it shows Ireland off well. The "festival of rugby" - the "celebration" contrasted with "participation" = very powerful. Congrats to the whole team who put this together from gestation to realisation. I'll share it - with people I know in Ireland and around the world - via Twitter mainly. Liam did a grand job. I hope this takes off. I hope you have budget for a follow-up every year - like the John Lewis xmas video. Thanks very much.

I'm from South Africa but I hope that Ireland get the RWC 2023. Too much rubbish is going on in SA at the moment and our economy is in the gutter. France already have hosted recently and have the Olympics in 2024. Mainly, I want Ireland to get it so that I have an excuse for visiting.
@raubi15497 жыл бұрын
Michael McLaggan Dude 2023 is a long time away we just walked out of a recession we'll be in a much better place economically the next six years, the drought will eventually break and the Zuptas are digging their own grave. Even with all that we'll still be ready and a good option, our crime can't be much worse than Brazil's which recently held the Olympics. SA needs something positive to look forward too after a couple of shaky years.

Ireland will NEVER host a rugby world cup because we just don't have the money other rugby unions have, France were awarded the 2023 tournament simply because they outbid Ireland, they put more money up, simple as!!!

Ireland has nothing on South Africa. SA is probably the only host country that can really bring the world together for an international event as big RWC. Think of anything and SA probably has it and it will be the most affordable meaning more people from more places can enjoy the spirit of rugby.

Taint ABird Well For starters Ireland is too small population wise , cannot possibly offer a good revenue return profits , infrastructure not good enough in comparison to France let alone South Africa , lack of sports facilities paticularly those required to host the world cup , plus Irish climate is droughty and bland .
@taintabird237 жыл бұрын
'Well For starters Ireland is too small population wise , cannot possibly offer a good revenue return profits', You might wish to reconsider this assumption. The island of Ireland has a population greater than that of New Zealand which successfully hosted the RWC in 2011. Furthermore, Scotland, Wales, England and France are all on Ireland's doorstep, unlike say, South Africa, which is far away from everywhere. The feasibility study behind the application suggests that Ireland can make a profit, though in all likely-hood it would be lower than that of France and presumably South Africa. The Irish bid provides an opportunity to spread the game in the USA - it includes a plan to do so as part of its application. France and SA cannot offer anything like this. Spreading rugby in the US is a long term objective for World Rugby; the Irish bid is strategic while the rival bids are not. 'infrastructure not good enough in comparison to France let alone South Africa , lack of sports facilities paticularly those required to host the world cup' While Ireland does not have FIFA World Cup stadia at its disposal, it does possess stadia that more than meet the minimum standards required. They compare well, and in some cases surpass, anything New Zealand had in 2011 (some require refurbishment, all would require comms upgrades). I suspect Ireland has sports facilities that might surprise you. Other infrastructure include excellent road, rail, air and ferry connectivitiy. It has more than enough hotel beds to accommodate travelling fans from across the world. It is also a safer country to visit than South Africa or France - all factors that will be taken into consideration. '.., plus Irish climate is droughty and bland' I don't know what 'droughty' is, and it is certainly not bland. It changes all the time, its one of the characteristics of living in this part of the world. Climate is not a factor here as Ireland has the same climate as England which hosted the RWC in 2015. Rugby was invented in this climate! In conclusion, if World Rugby need to prioritize profit, then Ireland is in a weaker position than South Africa or France. However, it may also be the case that World Rugby will look at France and South Africa and wonder what long-term benefit will accrue from choosing either as a hosts - its been held in both countries before. In this situation Ireland would be in a stronger position. Ireland was organised enough to submit its bid first, with the financial support of the governments of the Republic and Northern Ireland; France came next with a strategy to undermine the Irish bid - which seems to have failed, I think; South Africa's application followed a messy process which may not inspire confidence. But who knows what World Rugby wants or thinks?
@nelsonsibiya92047 жыл бұрын
Taint ABird You have made excellent points regarding Irelands capability to host the rugby world cup tournament and please don't see my rhetoric as an attack on Irish confidence I am just merely trying to highlight the short comings of an Irish world cup. You mentioned that Ireland has stellar stadia to host the world cup , I hope you don't mean GAA stadiums because many of them are basically glorified football fields , with many of them unable to seat over 20 000 people and may I remind that Ireland can never host such a major tournament on its own , it will always require the assistance of the UK , in this case using stadia from Northern Ireland . Certainly Ireland can provide essential accommodation for football spectators but most of it is in Dublin with many parts of the country being major towns or villages unable to host a large influx of people. actually come to think of it aren't many GAA stadia located in these small towns ?
