@RazorMouth Жыл бұрын
@@HiddenMan_ that's not our issue, our issue was destroying our construction industry after the financial crash and it's only recently recovering. In Ireland it's actually far cheaper to build lower density buildings. Dublin is different because the land is so expensive so there is a proposal in the council to build 25 stories or even more. That can be done in pockets without ruining the skyline. Most in Dublin are 7 or 8 stories. It might actually surprise some but destroying our residential construction sector was by design to get the value of property back up to where it was before the financial crash. This is to stabilize the banks and the assets on their books. Sick isn't it 🤦♂️ problem is they went too far and it's taking much longer than they thought to get construction going again. We're 4 or 5 years behind and immigration has been higher than expected too. Pandemic obviously didn't help either.

I live in Ireland, I'm a contruction engineer. People stay here only for the money, there is no services, no quality and a lot of taxes. Ireland is "good" now just to save money (if you are an high young profile), you save money and after you leave.
@jmo8934 Жыл бұрын
Eh. Thank you for that insightful analysis. There is a housing shortage in Ireland which is the number one problem. But it will be resolved. There has been billions of euros of FDI that have flowed into the country over the last 3 decades. But services have not kept pace. Other countries in Europe for example have had money for decades longer so we are playing catch-up. If the billions that are being taken in for the next few years are used correctly bottlenecks in the economy will be removed and we will continue to thrive. You may be a foreign worker and have no attachment to the country other than earning money which is fine. Some people will be in that position. For the people of Ireland however we don’t have to look too far back to when the country was in the doldrums with mass emigration and the population falling to just 2.8m in 1961. It has almost doubled since then and is growing fast. We are on the right path even if many in government and planning need to get their fingers out.
