@63LIONHEART I'm Irish and I basically agree with you, don't think there's much at all between 1-5. England are clearly back and competitive and arguably have the most scope to improve. If we had lost that second test, we'd have dropped to 3rd. I also expect France to be back to form in next year's 6N, after their post WC hangover. Should be interesting Rugby Championship and next 6N coming up.

@@63LIONHEARTEngland are still is a growing phase, they got beat by a weak France side, lost to Scotland and only just beat Italy by 3 points and Wales 16-14 a couple months ago. Australia and SA made light work of wales, Argentina has gone and beaten France. The kiwis only have England to compare themselves against right now and they assuming just cause England beat Ireland in a once of performance for the past 2 years at Twickenham that’s their standard. Other than Wales, England was the next easiest NH team touring. Ireland, France or SA would have run over the AB in those 2 opening games.

Too many outstanding moments and players to highlight. I'd rather just say that was one amazing test - and our All Blacks will need substantive improvements to avoid defeat... but I think our test program lends itself to at least giving us the time to developing those improvements. Ireland were playing the world champions at home. They were missing lots of players. They were written off after losing in the first match which they deserved to lose but having said that they hung in there after a poor performance and could have drew or won it if Lowes try was allowed. In the second match they were under massive pressure in the second half but they managed to keep SA from scoring a try and amazingly won the match in the dying seconds. It was a phenomenal win and shows the incredible grit and resilience of that team for never going away and playing right til the end. SA wanted to steamroll Ireland in both the matches and assert themselves at the best in the world which they are. But Ireland gave as good as they got and I think surprised a lot of ppl by their performances and attitude.

SA are the best, because they won the WC and are ranked number 1. I say this as an Irishman, being best or favourites doesn't mean you aren't going to get beaten on a given day. I'll qualify that also, that the result narrows the gap between SA and the field, and that is also probably a more accurate reflection. SA are number 1, but not by much. The next 4 teams below them could certainly beat them on the day.

Should have been 3 games. Imagine if JGP, and Hugo Keenan were available. It could well have been a 2-0 win for Ireland. But 1-1 is fair between these two top teams. Pity no third game and it's a pity about Jason Kolbe's attempt to cheat by pretending to be fouled. We don't want that in rugby. Aside from that, Conor Murray scored almost exactly the same try as last weekend. The Boks never looked like they were going to cross the try line, Ireland really tightened up their defence.

Great analysis. I'm an Irishman and I have to say hats off to your completely unbiased approach. I'd struggle to be that fair. Fair play to ya. You were spot on about the changes the Boks made. Also thought Faf didn't have one of his better game, whole thing became way quicker and fluid when Williams came on. Mngomezulu was outstanding. He's gonna be some player. Doris yellow card definitely, almost lucky at that. For us, thought everyone gave it everything, scrum under fierce pressure again. Boks on top there big time. Thought Osborne was superb. In the match didn't really see what the fuss was about. Looked like he focused on the pass, bolted, then realised a player was in his path. Fell trying to stop. And because he didn't initially see him thought he'd been obstructed. He was no where near the kicker, so a lot of fuss about nothing. Think after the kick PSDT saw him on the ground, so hoped he had been obstructed. Grasping at straws as I don't think he saw it. Finally saw a replay of what happened. Doris leans in slightly, so not obstructed. Next player takes a half step into his path. Still don't see it as obstruction, especially if you are nowhere near contesting / blocking that kick. Think the entire incident was blown out of proportion.

I had a gut feeling that Ireland would sneak an ambush here despite my head saying the Boks would win by 7 to 10. Always trust your gut feeling eh? 😀 You have to hand it to Faz for his man management though. We were down so many key players so he decides to drop POM and Aki and bring in some of the guys on the periphery. Osborne, Frawley, Blade and McCloskey all delivered on the day when it mattered. Great test series between two great teams. Yes a third test would have been awesome. Maybe in a colder, wetter and windier Cape Town which would have probably suited Ireland better? Ireland deserved the win. Played really well. We will have to see how they go over the next 12 months. Like Boks and All Blacks some players a little long in the tooth and changes will have to be made. Checked the results between two teams since 1981 and contests have always been close excepting, for one or two. Will see what future holds when the older players retire.

I think although a third test would be desirable I don't think Ireland would have had the legs for it. It has been an incredibly long season (15 months) and the Irish players competed in two international tournaments (World Cup and Six Nations) as well as club commitments. The boys really just need a rest.

Im definitely in the minority here, but in a way I'm actually glad we dont have the 3rd test this time. This way, it seems to me that the old cliche of rugby being the winner is more true. If one side or the other came away with a series win, then that is where all the focus would be. This way the respectful rivalry stays strong and we all stay energised to see what else these teams can go on and do.

All sports are fine margins , so character is the only diff so the top 4 could beat each other on any given day. Ireland made so many mistakes to give away so many penalties but the key to Ireland is the multitude of strings to their bow which all teams are aiming towards

Despite wonderful individual performances over the 2 games by many my player of the series was Caelan Doris. He was the standout player for me even in the first match and overall his individual contribution both individually and in terms of leadership he gets my vote.

The reason why there is no third tests World Rugby after the 2023 World Cup ordered that this Summer |Autumn there would only be two tests some countries went with this like Ireland ,Wales and England, South Africa for instance went and played a test vs Wales in Twickenham and Portugal at the end ,leaving no room for a third Ireland test, I very much doubt Ireland would agree to it their season began in February 2022 second to France, won the test series in July 2022 in New Zealand, Autumn series, Grand Slam in 2023,Summer series and World Cup, Won Six Nations in 2023 and headed to South Africa time for a rest on 2nd November they play the all Blacks

We have about 10 players in our squad that need to be let go.the players in our squad ha e becone too familiar with each other. 2 time wc winners is enough..its become stale. On the top of my head.. Faf..Nyakne..Bongi..Mostert..Willie ..move on from them. Faf needs to move down to third on the depth chart..he becomes irritatingly confidently kak. Play Williams ..goce him the starting berth. Stop playing 36 year old Willie..we have played him so much that even if he is shit..him not being there makes us more shit. Give Damian amd zulu 1 and 2 on thr depth chart. Mostert..dont know why Rassie persists with him...a 110kg lock who offers nothing beside tackling. Am at outside offers more to Jesse even if jesse is playing some good rugby..Am is definantly a better player this is not opinion. Marco van Staden with that knock on..unforgivable. harsh but thst cost us nr 1 spot. Might be droppped for that goong forward.

Lots of Irish fans on here talking about arrogance and being humbled. You won a rugby game by a drop goal and a 'woer-woer' one at that, in the dying seconds. Glass houses comes to mind. And yes, we get it. No one likes us and thats fine with me. We dont need your affection or approval. We will be back. As if all the Springboks achievements is nullified and the whole of SA is put in its place by this loss. Doris was captain. O'Mahony came on later and tidied things up. But stone cold Frawley was the man of the match for me. Two great drop goals under enormous pressure. It's a pity Kolbe tried a football style fall to try to cheat. That was a disgrace. We don't want to see that in rugby. It was s shameful act. At first I thought he just slipped but him waving his arms looking for a penalty showed he tried to cheat. He fell even before the contact got his timing all wrong. He needs to get some diving lessons from Ronaldo.😂 Ireland 9 wins from the last last 14, can't argue with that.
