the significance of this is that this was the first time the english national anthem was played at croke park since irish independence, bearing in mind as well, the british massarced irish civillians at croke park during the war of independence it was very significant. it's been less than 5 years since McGuinness and the Queen first met. the peace process while stable is by no means complete

God Save the Queen : song to a person ( very very old person ) Ireland's Call : song to a nation.
@shockwave47429 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Just what I've been saying for years. It's good that they did God Save the Queen first. Ireland's Call would have been a really hard act to follow. Especially by the song of the Land of Too Many Names, if you know what I'm saying.
@shockwave47429 жыл бұрын
***** I've heard things like that before, like, "The Queen in this song is representative of the country." Or something like that. But if that's the case there's still inequality in the language used. It's the same effect whatever route you use to get there. Besides, I would rather sing about the here and now than about century upon century of tradition that becomes meaningless if it's left unchallenged.
@TNCMAD9 жыл бұрын
***** Well, i wondered a lot why a so great people like english still likes the monarchy and i think it's in their culture. But french also loved monarchy and their monarch ( and it's still the case with their leader, they want a powerful man as the head of state ) and i think english are now, like the french in the 1700's and haven't begin their revolution yet. But when problems will come ( like France in the 1780's ), they would probably do it. By the way, the Thirteen Colonies, an english possession made their revolution when they were under a lot of taxes.
@shockwave47429 жыл бұрын
TNCMAD Of course, the British Revolution will probably take a different form than the French Revolution, given the form that the British monarchy is currently taking. They are more vestigial than tyrannical, not quite an appendix but perhaps somewhat like tonsils. Britain is a tonsilate state. There. Now I know what to call it. And their tonsilectomy will probably be quite a gruelling process, with many of the citizens going into some sort of withdrawal. I think that's why the monarchy isn't gone already. Their subjects are afraid of the withdrawal symptoms they might suffer in the monarchy's absence. And the royal family themselves will probably be at quite a loss when they have to live like citizens. We'll have to be very patient with them.
@shockwave47429 жыл бұрын
***** I admit I don't know exactly what you mean. Perhaps you are being sarcastic. I know I wouldn't go quite so far as to "exile them penniless to Madagascar". But your mention of "immigrant rape" does make me a bit nervous. What is immigrant rape?

Ireland's call is a beautiful anthem. But I prefer Amhrán na bhFiann for the historical meaning made by Irish republicans. As a Frenchman, i'm more sensitive about the national anthem of the Irish republic, quite similar to la Marseillaise, the French national anthem since the consolidation of the republic in France, during the French revolution. Vive la République d'Irlande, que j'espère voir unifiée avec le nord un jour, et la République française! Friendship from France

And then you'll read their autobiography that they'll hand to you, written 20years ago as we speak, planning and outlaying their plan to get you there, which by the way, is ahead of course...and you'll think, 20 years ago, Dani Osvaldo told me this would happen; how did he know? Was it because he read the elites own publications outlying their New World Order plan for us all; the ebola attack etc. ? Irelands call, what an emotional song, fantastic. I swear the ref and half the English team were singing as well!

I'm sure they would too! I have lived in England for 50 years and I love the place and people. I won't let my Irishness be defined by anti-English nonsense which was once peddled by our young Republic keen to create some distance. Thankfully most are getting over that now.
@WarhammerWings4 ай бұрын
@@KR-us9pj I sure as hell belted both songs out in the recent Championships for both U20 and Seniors. Quite fitting both the Emerald Isle and Lions walked away with a Championship each. As long as France gets a thrashing and Italy a whooping, I care not who wins Ireland v England games, as I myself am part Irish on my Dad's side of the family tree. I have a great time and cheer both teams on.

Respect Ireland. Lots of your forefathers helped us Boers in our fight against the English, notably one Willy John McBride, grandfather of the later Irish great Rugby player. From a Springbok fan.

I am "English" by birth but had grand parents both Catholic and Protestant from the North and the South. I lived through "The Troubles" and was in Manchester when the IRA bomb went off. The more recent nonsense over Brexit and the GFA makes me long for a United Ireland so that Irelands Call can be the anthem and I will answer it

I was there. I am Irish. We always welcome British people to Ireland - they are our closest neighbour and typically a good friend. Hill 16 - the massacre at Páirc an Chrócaigh - the GAA even thinking of allowing rugby at Croka. Unbelieveable - well done the GAA for allowing it, well done the English for being brave enough to turn up after the massacre, and WELL DONE to the XV Irish team who not once but twice (100% record) stood fast and never allowed an English victory on GAA ground. Happy to see England rugby have fun at Landsdowne - take a moment to appreciate what BOD, Stringer, O'Callaghan and the rest of them did for the nation at Croke Parc.
@cheeseeater99958 жыл бұрын
This game is very symbolic as croke park is practically an Irish Monument and English soldiers invaded the pitch there about a hundred years ago and killed players and fans at a Gaelic football match

@@freeeire564 I'm not insinuiting that's your position. I'm merely pointing out that we're waiting for an apology for the bombings that swept England too. You'll get yours when we get ours. Neither is going to happen so probably best to move on.

george mudayingo The bombings in England were in retaliation to the oppression in Northern Ireland.... they were reaction bombings. Soldiers are we whose lives are pledged to Ireland; Some have come from a land beyond the wave. Sworn to be free, No more our ancient sire land Shall shelter the despot or the slave. Tonight we man the gap of danger In Erin's cause, come woe or weal "Mid cannons" roar and rifles peal, We'll chant a soldier's song.
