Mike Lowry scored two tries on debut as Ireland powered to a bonus-point 57-6 success over 13-man Italy as they moved up to second in the Guinness Six Nations table.
As well as Lowry, James Lowe crossed twice as Ireland kept the pressure on France at the top of the table, overtaking England, their opponents in Round 4.

We in Italy are struggling to play rugby at high level. If you punish us the only time we make a good tackle, we will never improve at the highest levels. The referee should have said: "Bravo, this is 6Nations!"

I have to disagree. Harsh, but it is a textbook red card and application of the rule. That completely killed the game, though.

"Excuse me we're struggling to win here. any chance we can get an extra player off"? "Aye lad y' can". Ridiculous! Italy were competing until that point. I think that they would have competed all game. Didn't so many Ireland fans moan last year about their Wales result. A poor game. Overall I think that it has been a poor competition this year. The refs are killing it. Despite the ref. It is clear that Italy are actually improving. If some people want Italy out because they are supposedly not good enough,(Treviso) Rainbow cup champions:). They I suppose want a new raft of referee's because the current crop are below standard.

The law is, when a team has caused the scrum to become undisputed due to not being able to replace a front row player, another player of that team must exit. It's a way to ensure teams don't fake injuries to their players to force undisputed scrums if they are getting beat badly at them, but truly doesn't make much sense in the case of a red card. Referee followed the law correctly though, there is no space for interpretation. It's simply a bad law that must be altered to consider for this kind of situation.

@@AB-hh2eu yes but you can only replace a front row with a front row, so they would only be able to have 2 on the field anyway. you cant take a back row off and put a front row on. same with backs and forwards etc

The Ireland over Italy head to head record is by far the most disproportional in the history of rugby. Ireland has a 30 and 4 record over Italy, and has scored 1,229 points to only 501 for Italy. While Italy has a bad team, for some reason, it really gets beat up on by the Irish. Total domination.

Can someone explain what's the reason of sending-off two players instead one at 20''? Was it because Italy has no claimed hookers to replace Faiva? I am still misunderstand this law. So, you can validly replace hooker with a prop (because it's still front row), but you must sent-off additional player because he's is a PROP not a HOOKER, right?

To play a match with seven forwards against eight irrespective of the illegalities and the desire to make the game safe is in itself compounding the danger to body forces. One can tell if it is deliberate as opposed to accidental.

Award ten points to afflicted team and replace. Why should a TEAM suffer for one person's indiscretion or from what I could see was purely accidental?

Red card should be the same as yellow but for 20 minutes and the player has to be replaced by another player. The games is ruined like this.

L'arbitre était géorgien et comme beaucoup par le de remplacer l'Italie dans le tournoi des six nation par la Géorgie ceci explique çà car pour moi il n'y avait pas faute le joueur irlandais c'est baissé pour percuter le joueur italien à un mètre environ d'où le plaquage considéré comme haut

It was fairly harsh, and somehow they went for that and not the one after which dropped your man, but i honestly think italy couldve won, if not come very close. ireland were not doing anywhere near as well as they should

As has been explained countless times: the notion of "forward" is not, I repeat not, relative to the ground.

@@Findalfen In an offload, as in this case, the player who gives the pass is completely still, he practically gives an American football pass, it is not a pass from two players in motion where if it is justifiable that the final trajectory could be forward, it is forward pass in any of the possible aspects
