I wish Jakub died instead of Lukas... that way Alena and Irena would've been free to be together, plus Lukas was a good man who deserved to be happy with Dita. But I'm not upset with the ending, it's not anywhere near the worse we've seen with wlw ships. I'm happy they left the door open for Irena and Alena to reunite at their spot in the park when the war ends.

This story gave me so many conflicting feelings. On one hand, I was rooting for the two of them but on the other hand found myself calling Irena a heartless manipulative ice queen. I I was concerned in the beginning that Alena was just going to be a doormat and ignore the way Irena treats others, but she knows exactly who she is, and doesn't try to justify her or excuse her behavior. Well most of the time anyway. That's what was interesting about the contrast between Irena and Alena and Eva and Wilhelm.
