I have to admit that 20 years ago when you just drive into a parking lot with trees and just got out of the car and walked around it was great. The ranger program at dusk was fun and beautiful. But last fall we were there and the the parking lot was now a massive ramp with a $10 charge, construction that appeared to be going on for years, plastic orange fences and lots of people. And security, secruity everywhere. I couldn't wait to get out of there.

Interesting! It did look really busy with tons of cars and RVs. Glad we missed the crowd, but it would be cool to see a little closer.

That's too bad. :( We had a similar experience last summer. It was a bummer to see how commercialized it has become, but we weren't surprised. That's the nature of things becoming a popular destination. The way you describe it from 20 years ago sounds nice!

Totally agree with you they really missed out not going and reading about how hard it was for them to carve through the rocks and what it took. And the same man is the one that started Crazyhorse monument which I think is much more spectacular than Rushmore. His legacy is carrying on through his children and they are still carving Crazyhorse. If you ever get a chance to go see crazy horse monument and also it’s worth the money for the tour. We have a great lodge and good movie.

Yes, the $10 parking fee at Mt. Rushmore is worth it. You are able to see so much more on a Ranger guided tour. Learn history at the museum that shows scale models of the faces. Wind and Jewel Caves are nice too if you are able to come back to the area when things open. Drive through the Badlands National Park...cool.

I'm not sure if it still is in effect, but on the first weekend in June you can get into Crazy Horse for the cost of donating non perishable food items. They go to help feed the local tribes. Also you get to hike up on the carving. The view from the arm is worth the hike.

I saw Mt. Rushmore when I was 12 years old in 1964. We did go to the main viewing area which gets you pretty close. I thought it was incredible! Of course, I'm sure it was a much cheaper entrance fee back then. Next time I'm in the Black Hills I want to see the Crazy Horse Memorial. I know I won't live to see its completion but the face is done and this memorial is supposed to be much bigger than Mt. Rushmore.

Thanks for the terrific video. For us, Wind Cave NP is an incredibly beautiful place on the surface. North of Rankin Ridge, follow the NP road into the back areas for some great views. Also, Mt Rushmore is well worth the $10. The 1.3 mi trail around the monument provides a lot interesting perspectives.

I'm with you on Rushmore. Prefer Crazy Horse. Another cool way to see the faces is to take Iron Mountain Road (16A) in that direction (with a vehicle that fits in the tunnels and over the pigtail bridges). The tunnels were constructed to provide views. There is always more to do in that area. We need to ride more of the Mickelson bike trail.

Spent lots of time in the beautiful Black Hills, Keystone, Hill City, Custer and the back country. However the weather was insane nearly every day there were tornado watches and severe thunderstorm warnings, we had 100ft plus trees come down within 100ft of our motorhome. Tough to get much sleep when this was the forecast almost every evening. Got pretty hot during the day as well, 90° plus. Oh can't forget baseball sized hail, it decimated plenty of campers. Don't know if it was just a bad summer or what, but going there in an RV was not good for us and a lot worse for the poor folks that had theirs destroyed.

Thanks for watching! Have fun on your trip! It was starting to get pretty busy with RVers by the time we left in late June. I think people are feeling cooped up and just want to get out into nature!🌲

It was free to get in, but they charge you ten dollars to park. I guess that's one way around it!😂 We probably should have stopped at checked it out though. Still kinda avoiding crowds also....

Fantastic video!! Love the use of music to set the tone. ❤ So did your charge controller just malfunction? And do you ever get "decision fatigue?"
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Shelley! We think it was a loose connection on the wire and that caused the excessive heat build up and fried. We fix it in the next episode at the Badlands. There are a lot of decisions aren't there!! We try to keep easy and simple most of the time, but sometimes it gets to ya. Like when we were at Rocky mt national park and planned on staying longer and then ended up driving 5 more hours to Wyoming!😀

@@IreneIronTravels I thought I had mine in good on my Victron 100/30 controller, but I snagged the wire with my finger during installation of other components, and it pulled out. Basically had to tighten it as hard as I possibly could for them not to pull out.

Your videos just keep getting better & better. Hey Aaron what gage wire did you use for your install? Take Care ~ Safe Travels
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 4 жыл бұрын
Well thank you JJ! I used 4/0 gauge ultra flex high strand count for the batteries and the 3000 watt inverter. The solar was pre wired with 12 gauge from Airstream, and I have them hooked up in series. When I first did the solar last year I used 12 gauge wire from Home Depot I think. It was really stiff low strand wire and I think that was part of the problem with the connection that melted. I just upgrade it to a 10 gauge high strand flexible wire and like it much better. I go over it more next week in the Badlands! Are you doing an install or do you have already have solar?

Irene Iron Fitness ~Not yet but I will. And it seems most end up, Up grading to 10. COVID-19 has sent my plans into a loop for now. I’m a huge fan of Battle Borns and am planning on adding 4 very much like you’ve done. I’m just really thirsty for information. I plan on going with a coachmen 22C-li3. Already with lithium, large compressor fridge and a 12 volt air conditioning also a 47 volt generator under the hood. I like the fact that it’s gas and on a ford chassis (easier to get serviced) don’t know if the COVID delay is a good thing or bad but for now it is what it is. Been planning and saving for this for years 😩🙄 *sigh’s*

Awesome! Feel free to ask any questions that we might be able to help with! I was VERY interested also in the Coachmen Galleria LI3 4x4 when it first came out in 2018 and thought it would be perfect. All except maybe the price tag!😳 We plan on doing a series of some shorter 5-10 minute videos covering some of the common questions we get about Class B's or full time living. Thought it might be interesting, searchable and easier to show on video than trying to answer in the comments ...... We'll see!

Hi guys, when your solar charge controller was out of commission in this video, did you have a DC to DC charge controller installed? It seemed to have made a big difference in keeping my batteries charged while driving. By the way, I love your videos. They inspired me to upgrade most of the electronics in my Interstate last year. Thank you!

Hey there 👋, thanks for watching! We didn't have a dc 2 dc in the van, but we did have a LIBIM225 isolator which does connect the chassis and house batteries for driving. But only around 30 amps per hour so It takes a lot of driving to recharge the 400 amps lithium.
@CL600Sport

@@IreneIronTravels - Thanks for your reply 😃 Oh yes, now I remember your video where you talked about that BIM. The BIM that Airstream installed in my 2013 Interstate only connected when the house batteries were between 12.6 & 13.0V, and then only for an hour. It also did not connect if the house batteries were over 80% charged to prevent overcharging. So my batteries never fully charged regardless of how long I drove 😤 I went with a Victron Orion TR Smart 12/12 - 30 DC/DC charge controller. It worked out great! Btw, I’m running two Lifeline GPL-8DL 255ah each AGM batteries. I hope you get your new trailer soon! David
