Irene you are so skilled! Composition, posing, vision, wonderful!!! You're amazing skills aside, how much of a role would you say very high quality glass plays in capturing backlit shots? You are not shooting with a lens hood and yet you capture so much detail rather than washed out images - whenever I start shooting towards the sun everything gets so washed out.

Super video as always. I have two suggestions if I may; 1) You have a real talent for nailing these natural light backlit shots. Many photographers would opt for a ocf solution for shots like this, but here you show it works (even better imo) by just really knowing your camera's capabilities for post production exposure fixing. But perhaps you can offer some technical advice here? How do you go about it in the field? Have you found a certain method that you know will work well for the final edit? Such as spot metering off the subject with a certain EV compensation bias? Or perhaps taking the shot when the blinkies (highlight warnings) of the sun highlights are just starting to go off? etc etc. That might be something many of us would appreciate. 2) The situation you encountered where not all the photographers got the same amount of time is a common one. Perhaps a video about how to go about having 1 subject with 2 photographers taking shots at the same time, to maximize efficiency? For sure the two photographers would be shooting the subject hitting similar poses, but perhaps that slight perspective differences, different lens choices, slight angle differences of the shot could navigate around this problem enough to make it a valid cooperative experience with differing creative results? Anyway, just some ramblings, don't mind me. Super vid :)

These are fantastic...though I don't "feel" how good till you fill the screen area with it. Reminds me of how I'm always frustrated when I post what I think is a great shot on Insta, and it just doesn't have the same effect in 1x2" screen as it does on my 32" monitor!

Quick question Irene... I shot some golden hour bridal portraits at a wedding yesterday using my new R6 alongside one of my 5D4's with a different lens. My problem was I really struggled to see any lens flare in the camera viewfinder of the R6 compared to using the 5D4... do you notice this at all too?

I got a newbie question: when trying backlit photos like these, do you expose correctly the subject or the background?
@IreneRudnyk Жыл бұрын
I usually will try to get a balance of both, so not blowing out the background too much and also not getting the subjects too dark. But the main rule is that you can always recover shadows but blown out spots are non recoverable. Also notice that I choose spots with a lot of natural reflectors, here it’s the water that helps to reflect some of the backlight back into the model.
@photo8182 жыл бұрын
That’s a great place to shoot, shot there many times myself. I think an off camera flash would be of great benefit. There seemed to be great blue skies and some clouds for some shots instead of blowing out the sky to white. Changing the sky and adding birds with Luminar seemed too obvious and the natural sky would be best
