My friend Iris Colon taught me how to make Puerto Rican coffee this way and gifted me her mom's aluminum pot and colador sock. Thanks Iris!

That’s the way I was taught by a Puerto Rican old lady in Naguabo in 1977. We never put the coffee back on the fire though & we heated the milk & sugar separately. Then we filled 2 big thermoses of the sweet, hot, milky coffee for any neighbor who stopped by. Yes, with bread, like the other lady said. You did good, Drake- but that’s some strong coffee you make. 🐸

Every Puerto Rican in my family and every Puerto Rican that i know, adds at least 2-5 sugars and any amount of milk. But we boil the milk separately and turn off the fire as soon as we see bubbles in the milk. We put the coffe grounds in the strainer first then pour the boiling hot water through the coffee. Then we add the milk and the sugar last. Many Puerto Ricans use canned carnation evaporated milk in their coffee straight out of the can into their cup, without boiling the milk. Both ways delicious .😋

Wow I came here to show my son what a colador is used for because he was little when my mom died and didn't remember what it was. I don't know who your Iris Colon is but my mom's name was Hilda Iris Colon from Arecibo, PR. Thank you for the memories.

It's not made from a Sock ...A Colador is a Colander made from fabric, in Spanish Tela ... And by the way you did it wrong at the end of the video
