The beer bellies on the older lads is a disgrace, and I'm not talking about the veterans. The defence forces are tiny and should strive for small but elite way of conducting themselves.there is no excuse for the older chaps with waists over 40 inch. And musician is not an excuse either, your attached to the defence forces not the rte symphony orchestra.

Those are Civil Defence, not the army or any of the Defence Forces

@@Captaindudething the civil defence are the last group that were unable to march. The rest were pdf. I was particularly talking about the bandsmen.

@@twoonthewall To be fair, the army band don't even undergo half the training a normal entry recruit would have to and even then it's still fairly easy going on the discipline

@@Captaindudething that was my point. They wear the uniform , they should be presentable. I dont expect them to get a beasting every morning and go running around the glen, but this is their full time job! They could find 1 hour a day to go to the gym and do some gentle age appropriate ecercise! Get on the stationary bike for 20 mins row for 15mins small circuit of weights 20 mins hit the shower then back to band practice simple. They have access to pt instructors if they want them for help. Not too much to ask that they dont look like a bunch of truck drivers that have a full fry up 10 times per week !

The whole point (or is it pint) of being a soldier is to be the most physically fit you can be to defend your country. The stomachs on some these 'soldiers' is an embarrassment.
