So, my water supply was cut off by the owner of the house next door aug 22. I tried to get a new connection. Uisce Eireann ( the water company set up by the government and fully funded by the Irish tax payer to the tune of billions each year) would not speak to me. Feb 24 I still have no connection!!!! Really. I got a TD (member of parliament) to contact Uisce Eireann who promptly replied to him saying I had been offered a new connection and turned it down because I would not pay for the plumbing on my property. A completely made up story. You think that's bad? There's more. Now Revenue are penalising me for having a vacant property by charging me a vacant property tax. They say not having a water supply is no reason for the house to be vacant. Yet it would be illegal for me to rent it out with no water supply. Why will revenue not accept having no water as a reason for a house to be vacant. Because the government who set up Uisce Eireann do not want revenue recording how many houses do not have a water supply because that would expose what a catastrophic failure Uisce Eireann is.

@@irishterminator. We don't pay for water in Rep of Ireland. The water system is antiquated and there are many houses that have a shared supply with multiple houses. This is around the time they blew up their Long Wave transmitter because 'it was costing too much to run' - a bit hard to figure given that they were barely putting enough juice into it to power the aircraft warning light on top! Still, I'd grudgingly cut them a pass on that, since there's hardly a broadcaster on the continent still transmitting on L.W. - The BBC are about the last, and the say they will switch off sometime this year or when the crystal gives up the ghost, whichever comes first. (In the meantime I'm still listening to BBC Radio 4 on L.W. most days). What really, _really_ annoyed me though was when shortly before this they shut down Digital Audio Broadcasting (D.A.B.) on the grounds that 'no~one' was listening. This, after persuading half the country to shell out for new radios able to play D.A.B., at not insubstantial cost. The most outrageous part of this (and in fairness, RTE can't really be blamed, not directly anyway), electric appliance stores still sell DAB radios to an unsuspecting public with no disclaimers whatever on the shelves!

other countries have the same issues with their "government-provided" program - the programs are re-runs of things from decades ago and there's news and weather reports. Nobody watches that shit but still has to pay "for TV". Actually, we pay for the infrastructure that allows TV and radio, and the problem is the infrastructure finance is not separated from programs' finance, forcing everyone to pay for all of that, instead of infrastructure maintenance only
