IRISH DANCE - Back to Basics - Placement Drills

Let’s get Back to Basics!
The progressive drills in this class encourage us to think about our placement when standing on the spot, moving forward, backwards, sideways & diagonally.
You’ll notice that lots of aspects from our turnout practice will help with your placement technique. Why? The more turned out your feet are, the better placed your feet & legs are going to look.
Try this in front of a mirror to see for yourself!
Key things to think about in these drills:
- That heel to toe position.
- Push your heels forward.
- Push your toes to the corners.
- Also ask yourself - What is my back foot doing? Don’t forget about it! Both your front & back feet are important when it comes to placement.
Your goal? When you start moving, can you keep your placement at the same standard as when you’re on the spot? This is tough!
These educational 'Back to Basics' classes are perfect to use as a warm up too. Great for the mind & body!

Thank you for this drill exercise! I’m new to Irish Dance and am also trying to break in my first pair of soft shoes while also conditioning my feet/ankle/legs to actually wear them to dance. Outside of class I struggle to know how to get warmed up and stretched out to help avoid cramping and early stiffness so your video is so helpful! 💙💚
