Ciarraighe (Kerry) is where my forefathers O`Shee came from, and from Gaillimh (Galway) were my ancestors O'Fallon. Both migrated to the Basque Country after the cromwelian period, and then younger family members saw service in the Caribbean and the Phillippines (spanish Real Armada). Finally both family branches met in South America where they intermarried between them and also with my basque family branch (multiple unions). Thus Eire, the Basque Country and southern S.America are closely intertwined in my family tree. With my children we will visit Killarney, Cork, Galway and Kilkenny as soon as Covid permits us...

Sadly the great O'Sullivan clan was devastated by Oliver Cromwell. We lost a lot battles and many wars, but between the March of The O'Sullivans and the hideous losses at Kinsale, we are but a shadow of our former selves. Not much left of the house of Dunboye My father was born and raised in Castletown Bere, co Cork, my mom was from Mt Mellick, co Leois . Long passed now I am a yank as are my brothers and sisters. They never lost their love of Ireland or the love and respect for the Leary family that help raise my dad. Good people the Irish. Beautiful place.

My family is Callahan, Sullivan, Barry, O'Brien, Dalton, Cavanaugh. I did my dna... says I'm 70% Munster Ireland. I guess my family didn't venture outside Munster families...ha! Armenians (Noah's ark landed in Armenia; Mother Mary's grandmother Sarah was Armenian apparently) were forced out/being killed so many tribes went to Ireland.

I am part Native American and the predominant remainder Irish from the Mac Kerley's of northern Munster around the southern bank of the river Shannon, that's as far as I got on my own, now to get serious and call in some help.l'd like to know to what Clann we were affiliated, get some good ol' "rediscovered family" vibe communication going on, then nothing left but to make it happen! To think that I cared and knew little about my Gaelic blood and the rich, strong culture estranged from me till my life changing awakening due to Conan comics and even more awesome Cu Chullain, due to my first album from the Greatest Rock Band to come out of Ireland- THIN LIZZY! due to the brilliant Celtic cover art from Ireland's amazing Jim Fitzpatrick! I had become aware. A gift I had just begun to unwrap. And I love the very cool and revealing cultural similarities between the American original and the transplanted Celt, turning him from "Indian" hunter to being responsible for a good percentage of Native American mixed bloods. No good for drinking though. Thanks for the channel, Sinn Fein! Walter Kerley.

That female name still runs in our family on the O'Leary side. My dad's family was from the Daniel Michael branch that traces ancestors far and wide - Columbia to Australia. From what I can tell, it was a naming tradition for centuries, maybe eons, in the O'Leary clan and I once came across a list of the 'Donals'...Donal of the Tides, Donal of Fair Hair, etc., even a Donal of the Boils! Apparently we carry the genes for hemachromatosis, a problem with iron absorption found mostly in men, and those who suffer from it do get boils. This would make sense in a population highly dependent on iron-rich meat from cattle raising and our family was renowned for it, as the name denotes.

My mother (Rohan from Ballyduff, Cloghane, West Kerry) told me that the Rohans were two brothers, one of whom emigrated to Cork and the other to Kerry from Brittany and were originally 'de Rohan' ... the family story (unverified) is that they were French refugees that fled the 1789 revolution. Rohan is one of the 30 French noble names (i.e Cardinal de Rohan, Marie Antoinette & the affair of the diamond necklace) and the Rohans were Dukes of Brittany based around the town of Rohan, Morbihan, Brittany. ... so not originally Irish ...but like the Fitzgeralds have become more Irish than the Irish themselves!
