I've just come across this channel and I'm very pleased to hear a Northern Ireland accent on the internet talking sense and being informative. 😄I have the same accent and feel qualified to comment! Please keep up the great work and your delivery is spot on. I would agree that Irish Ferries are an excellent way to travel to France and indeed the quality extends to travels to Wales as well. I am a big fan traveling 3 return journeys a year with the company.

Well, if the TV isn’t in the bathroom I am not travelling on it! Hahahhahaha I have travelled on Irish Ferries many many times from Pembroke to Rosslare and Holyhead to Dublin and vice versa. I agree with you about their 2005 antics and agree the staff aboard are very nice. I find they give you sensible room on the car deck, not like Stena who do not and you have to be a contortionist to get out of your car. On a side note, about Stena, today is the last sailing for the Stena Europe on the Rosslare to Fishguard route. A new ship is taking over. I have travelled on the Isle of Inishmore more times than I can count, a lovely ship. Also, on the Ulysses (Holyhead - Dublin) and the Epsilon (Dublin - Holyhead). I always take a cabin and each ship has given me nice cabins, roomy, clean and comfortable. Not like the Stena Europe which are rabbit hutches. Food on all the ships was expensive though but I am sure that’s the same on every ship/ferrys. I used to travel Irish Ferries so much I was a member of the frequent travellers club and earned a free crossing once 😊. I really do miss my ferry trips to Ireland and recommend Irish Ferries. Also I found that they do not cancel the ferry if it gets a bit windy, I found Stena did if someone sneezed and that’s how I started with Irish Ferries. One trip an hour from the Fishguard (after driving 7 hrs) they cancelled me and went I from Pembroke instead.

We took the WB Yeats from Cherbourg to Dublin as rail/foot passengers last year, treating ourselves to a top-notch cabin. Fantastic experience. The only recommendation I can make to the ferry companies (this also applies to Stena - Belfast - Liverpool) is to set up decent transport for foot passengers to/from downtown to the actual ferry terminal.
@nakedireland Жыл бұрын
Thanks Malcolm, hopefully Irish Ferries will take heed.

Now if there was a tunnel under the Irish Sea I'd get my hubby over in our car.lol...He'll fly,drive down to Dover onto the Eurotunnel drive through France down to the Costa Blanca...But can't get him back on a Ferry after a very rough crossing! As a child our Ferry was from Heysham happy times! packed in like sardines lol a mass exodus to the promised land.

they were paid by dollar I worked for Irish ferries management the staff comes from Greece the ships are registered in and go by Greece law and I do not like your comments about the strike when the company was going to go under.
@nakedireland Жыл бұрын
Well, in fact, watch it again! I didn’t mention a strike. I simply said that I didn’t like the company sacking all it’s workers and then re-employing cheap labour. I think shareholders in these big companies should take the hit when times are tough - not the hard working staff. They’re very happy to collect the big bucks when times are good. And as I said, the current ferry staff appear to be Eastern European - Not Greek!

Since the 2016 vote when Britain opted to leave the EU, the Irish government along with the ferry companies looked at direct routes to the continent. This was a serious blow to Hollyhead and the other Welsh ports because the hassle expected at Dover became a major issue for Irish exporters. The result is that the routes have proved highly successfull because drivers can rest and relax before driving on to their destination. It was a big brexit win for Ireland and sadly a major loss for Wales.
@nakedireland Жыл бұрын
That makes total sense. Thanks for commenting.

Used this route 3 times since 2021, using it again in Sept 24 and a further trip is planned for June 25. As I get older I find this is much more preferable than being cooped up in a plane for 9 hours at a time when Florida was our destination of choice but no more, ferry all the way with our own wheels on the car deck! In total agreement with your observations, especially about staffing. I believe at least 50% of the crew should be Irish but that's just my two penn'orth!
