Ian, you've demystified the rolls so well! What took years to figure out has been explained and demonstrated so clearly in mere seconds, thank you sir and cheers from the Great Lakes! Fine fiddling by the way.

It seems very "easy" but when trying to play, I see that it's not easy as it seems :)) but I love Irish music and these videos are very useful and didactic. Thank you Ian Walsh and Online lessons videos. Over years I've watched Ian wash's training lessons and tried to play. I hope you will never remove these videos :) I must find appropriate time for learning on site.

@MAX281000 try the levellers. they have some really simple pieces that you can get the jist of, and then they have some harder ones, and on and on you'll go. but that's how i started out, though. you might be completely different!

This is called Farewell To Éirinn, Farwell to Ireland is a different tune
@bomaite18 жыл бұрын
I think this tune is called "Farewell to Erin". "Farewell to Ireland " is a different tune entirely. The two are commonly confused.
@justintempus74068 жыл бұрын
+bomaite1 The Dubliners released it on two different albums (that I know of) as "Farewell to Ireland", as a Barney McKenna banjo solo. What is your source for this, and what song are you saying is the "proper" "Farewell to Ireland"?
@bomaite18 жыл бұрын
Listen to Frankie Gavin. Enter "Farewell to Ireland". That is a very different tune. To go one better, type in "Farewell to Erin", then take the Kevin Burke tutorial clip. In that clip he states clearly that they are two different tunes and that the one featured in this clip is named "Farewell to Erin". Kevin recently was awarded the Gradam Ceoil, so I would say that this puts some weight behind his opinion. But there are two separate tunes, definitely, and the other tune is never refered to as "Farewell to Erin". But you can call it a horse or a pig or a cow if you want to. I leave it up to you.

Surprising that The Dubliners got it wrong on multiple albums, but it appears that you are correct. They were probably a bit drunk anyways.

It's nothing to get caught up over, these tunes go by many different names, and he says it's also called "Farewell to Erin" in the intro. The Session website lists both tunes under both names.
