The prison where the Manchester martyrs where hung was the New Bailey Prison, as you say replaced by Stangeways. There are no flats on the site but a large office development. The monument to the Manchester Martyrs is in moston cemetery

Yes in the 50s many groups came over from Ireland l was young in school my older sister had many Irish friends used to go dancing every week

I was born Manchester 10 1960 21 of my grandfathers the Mcgillick from Wicklow moved over some to heywood Blackburn Leeds because of work which as you know died out

Sonny Mcgillick sadly passed but my cousins are still in heywood my father moved from cheatem hill out off manchs my mother sold up in Hulme hall gone back to Wicklow well her family has moved to waterford but finds it a struggle with expenseses but family help my mother has always said I was born there and I will die there she is si proud of Ireland

My Irish grandparents came from Co Mayo and moved to Heywood too where they got work in the cotton mills
