To the girls' question at 6:02, yes there is a high concentration of limestone in Kentucky. Some people claim that the limestone content in the water is what gives Kentucky bourbon its unique flavor. Incidentally, limestone is a very soft rock that erodes easily in water. That's why Kentucky has such extensive cave systems, including its most famous: Mammoth Cave National Park.

You are correct. Most Kentucky bourbon makers use High Bridge Spring Water from a natural spring in Wilmore, KY.

I want to visit, but i am a recluse and have not left my city since 2005. I love bourbon, though, and have watched all of the online tours of different kentucky distilleries i could find. When drinking bourbon, i think of how europeans brought what they knew about whiskey making to the new world, how methods were refined and altered, and how geographical locations provided favorable results in the end product. I think of how a charred oak barrel provides color, aroma, and a memorable taste.
@chrisgeo16424 жыл бұрын
Pro tip when drinking whiskeys neat inhale slightly as you sip the alcohol fumes hit your throat first and reduce the burn from the liquid. It also allows you to taste more of the subtlety in the whiskey . Don’t hold it on your tongue just inhale sip swallow. This is why whiskey drinkers never seem to be bothered by the burn whilst non whisky drinkers say things like “it just tastes like burning” Adding a drop or two of water can (key word) can open up the flavor of a lot of whiskies but not all sometimes it makes a good whiskey really fucking awful. Contrary to belief this isn’t watering down don’t mix the water just add the drop what it dies through the magic of science is force the oils in the whiskey to coagulate and brings them right to the top so you are getting a big taste of all the flavors but remember a little of char or wood or whatever can bring out nice familiar flavors but more doesn’t always translate to those flavors remaining and what might be a nice hint of vanilla or nip of spice can turn into just a mouthful of weirdness.

International Bourbon Marketing Primer: If it looks like a Jack Daniels bottle but isn't Jack Daniels, it's bad and trying to market to people who either prefer the McDonald's of bourbon or those who don't know any better. Bulleit is legit. Their rye is even better than their bourbon. 1792 has a fancier bottle but it's actually a similar price to Bulleit. Smoother and sweeter, really nice for cocktails. More than you want to know: Kentucky sits on huge shelf of limestone, so it is in the water and plants, etc. The limestone is the reason Thoroughbred horse are born and raised there. Farmers in Kentucky grow the corn for the distilleries. Bourbon is aged in charred oak barrels that can only be used once. The used barrels go to Scotland for scotch, Mexico for tequila, and France. Very disappointed you didn't get to taste Woodford Reserve, made in the county where my Mother's family is. How about the next American road trip is Kentucky? You can take the Bourbon Trail checking out distilleries, side trip to see Corvette sports cars built, tour thoroughbred horse farm to see very expensive barns and beautiful horses, eat a Kentucky Hot Brown followed by Chess pie with sweet tea to wash it all down.
