Well anything with more than a drop of flavor is just called a juice or something; being barely there is kinda the whole point. Also it definitely does with carbonation. The CO2 reacts with water and forms carbonic acid, which is bitter. It's why plain carbonated water tastes so bad

Micheal Fry: Bigger bubbles makes for what you call "hard" bubbles. Whereas smaller bubbles makes for a softer touch on the tongue. Naturally carbonated drinks such as sparkling wines often has small bubbles giving a feeling of softer bubbles. The forced-carbonated drinks generally have "harder bubbles". This ofcourse includes soft-drinks, both those with and without alcohol.
