I had the same question.

Five years late, but Will is playing an autoharp. When you press a key, it mutes the appropriate strings to play a given chord. If you strum it without pressing any of the keys, it plays every note of the chromatic scale and then some, and sounds horrible in the process. Ah, I sure do miss these lads when they were all together, and in James' case, this side of heaven.
