Rewind to 2004 for a Guinness Six Nations classic between Ireland and England. England, fresh from their 2003 World Cup victory, faced down an Ireland side featuring the likes of Ronan O'Gara, Brian O'Driscoll and, that year's player of the tournament, Gordon D'Arcy. #teamofus

How weird is this? Waiting for a flight from Hanoi to Laos and I’m watching the highlights of Englands defeat after the World Cup victory. I was at the match and goodness me, that was 20 years ago!!!

It’s difficult nowadays to articulate how big this win was. England was more or less unbeatable for 5 years at home and it was their first home game after winning a World Cup. Moreover, Ireland were easily beaten by France and had been mauled by England in Lansdowne Road the previous year.

What sort of Black Magic is this? Where is the blaring pop music at every break in play? How can anyone enjoy a game of rugby if it isnt also a giant outdoor disco? I dont understand it,

Sir Clive tried him at 13. The idea was to add more speed to the backline, but I don't think it was a great success. Sir Clive fell out with the 57 old farts and left.

That's a massive exaggeration. They were fortunate they didn't play the All Blacks in the final in 2003. England has never had the pedigree in terms of winning that New Zealand or South Africa have over them. Ireland seems to be the dominant team (Northern Hemisphere) over England for quite some time now and that doesn't look like it will change much in the near future.
@BazBoks
@BazBoks 7 ай бұрын
@Daz442 Completely agree, no team has had a tougher route to a world cup win than England's 2003 winning side. Makes SA's 2023 route look like a cakewalk in comparison
@markgasparini6577
@markgasparini6577 7 ай бұрын
Still doesn't make them the best winning team in history. In 2015, apart from a close call against South Africa, the All Blacks trounced every other team they played by massive scores. They absolutely smashed the French side out of the competition.

@markgasparini6577 7 ай бұрын
@Daz442 You could actually say that about 2003. The team England played in the Final was Australia. About 3 months earlier New Zealand beat them by 50 points to 3 I think it was.
