I think the lack of cleaning around the phone cord is fine unless you store your cord on the floor. It should not be there the next time the vacuum comes around. Thanks for showing this new model as I'm in the market for another robot.

If I had to guess, this will improve as they gather more data - there's only so much they replicate in lab. iRobot has started to request feedback more and more from what I can tell (the "how did your robot clean?" popup) .. if I had to guess, they're using the low ratings to analyze and train.

Just an idea it would be cool and insightful to see the run time of the vacuum in probably the bottom right corner of the screen. Since iRobots have lower battery capacity. Nice videos!

I think it's smart enough to not go over cables as it knows it will get stuck on them and smart enough to know it can push solid objects.
@chrisblumarten2 жыл бұрын
not sure how the AI works in this, but if it has a library of objects like some robots do then its behaviour makes sense, I think. If it can recognise the bottles as self-contained units it can afford to be more aggressive around them as there's nothing that's likely to trip it up. However, if it recognises a 'wire' it will know that those are less self-contained objects and therefore more likely to have unpredictable protuberances that it might not see and will mess it up, hence giving them a much wider clearance 'just in case'. can probably be tweaked over time, and maybe it will even do that learning on-board without needing a firmware update, but either way its actions in this video kind of make sense.

object recognition is different from understanding where something exists spatially so i’d wager that all effort has been put into the former so far. the instructions are probably not “stay X inches away from a recognized object” (because it can’t) but rather “if you see any objects on this list, just turn away”. i’m only speaking as a computer vision hobbyist

Can’t wait to see how well it MAPS the whole house. I have a large single story home and the Roomba 9+ failed badly attempting to map the house. 24 hours(!!) for the first map and you need three maps for accuracy. Then the S9+ just sat on its base refusing to move. Rebooted it 3x. S9+ would start to vacuum / Map for 3 or 4 feet, then fail and shut itself off. Back it went to Amazon!! Thank you for your detailed videos. I’ve owned 5 different Roomba vacs starting with the very first one many years ago. So disappointed in the S9+. Looking now for MORE ACCURATE AND QUICKER MAPPING. Probably have to go with a LIDAR model. Can’t wait to see this new machine attempt to map your house 👍 Thank you.

Got the Jet Bot AI+ and the Roborock S7+ a week ago, working on my first video to do the comparison. I will say the AI+ has by far the best AI & obstacle avoidance of any robot vacuum that exists, by a large margin. I have the S6MaxV and it's no comparison. AI+ is extremely impressive in that regard, and also top dog in one or two other categories, but suffers immensely in some very important ways (subjectively)... a few of them being it's ridiculous height (can't get under my damn couch), carpet cleaning ability (worth the trade off for me since I don't have much carpet, and it cleans incredibly well on hard floors and in crevices), and the fact that Samsung SUCKS at keeping replacement dust bags and other necessary parts in stock.

The computer vision of the J7 must be similar to the computer vision found in the front windshield of new vehicles where the camera can distinguish basic objects. I'm not sure if there is machine learning abilities in the J7 such as that of the recent Apple A15 SoC found in iPhones but it would be helpful if the J7 could learn new objects as time progresses. I find it unfortunate that the J7 could not distinguish Advil & water bottles during the test.

The distance it leaves is good, in case it is seeing a cat/dog, so it avoids their tail/feet and doesn't scare them so much. It would be good if you could tell it ok 10" distance except ~3" from cables.

So, I noticed something interesting on my new j7.....I am pretty sure it doesn't use obstacle avoidance if using just a mapping run.....it plowed thru multiple cables (that it avoided on the initial vacuuming mapping run), would be interested to see u put that theory to test with poop and other various objects doing just a mapping run. This could be very important and possibly a flaw from irobot that should be addressed for a new j7 owner lol....."I just started mapping my house in it smeared sh*t everywhere trying to map it!" Lol

What I'd really like to know is...is it just as bad at mapping and knowing where it is as the previous models (i7, s9)? Or did they do something to address its relative blindness compared to LIDAR robots?
@KhyronDesintegrado2 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify: out of the box and for now it can only detect pet waste and cables. That’s it. The rest of the obstacles are detected via bumper touch. Also, No, the led light is not for navigation it is only to have a better look at the pet waste and cable. iRobot says if the j7 sucks up poop they will send you a replacement at no cost to you.
