This iRobot is the best thing I could have ever purchased🌼 It takes a day or two to get the layout of your home but once it does , it goes like crazy. The app is easy to download you can turn it on and send it to its home from there . If iRobot gets stuck you are notified and it’s easily found . My home has no more dust bunnies and is cleaner than ever. I could never get everything off the floor with a broom or vacuum cleaner!

On proper Li-On appliance, one should be able to charge it at will, like a laptop, the appliance's charger should know how to deal with a Li-On battery automatically. I say SHOULD because there is post out there and kinda go into the pitfalls of user retrofitting a LiOn battery into a originally not designed for LiOn appliance, and for this IRobot the company doesn't seem to be helpful. In general, I'd say once the appliance is fully charged, I'd unplug it, which maybe a pain if if whole reason of buying a robot vacuum is fully automation. Can use an electrical timer.

Liion last 4 hours, still doing very well after 5 yrs, the old nihm battery is 2 hours. I would advise the liion

The charger is not designed for lithium battery and it may have a high risk of catching fire. Remember lithium batteries are very dangerous if it is not fully certified by iRobot.

once the roomba has started cleaning unplug the charging dock the roomba will clean until the battery is dead and the roomba will say "please charge roomba" my 560 will go about 1.5 hours with the yellow NiMh battery

Should publish the mAh Roomba standard battery is 3000 mAH. What's the Lithium? For those who don't understand mHa is essentially how big the fuel tank is on the battery. My non-lithium replacement is 4500 mAh so 150% of the older battery (or half a long again).

I charged my new Lithium battery overnight, and this morning it was flashing an error message. Also, there was a flashing "red triangle". Anyone know what is going on? The Roomba was running fine this morning, but I am concerned about the error messages. I'm keeping an eye out for now, but I won't be recharging it, until I know what's going on.

I made my own battery for Roomba out of 8 cells 18650 from old laptop and BMS board. It works fine except one thing: after battery is fully charged after another half an hour Roomba says "Charging error 5". That happens when BMS overvoltage protection disconnects battery from Roomba terminals. So now Roomba feels there is no battery inside and issues that error. But even after that it works 3,5 hours straight. I don't quite understand how this battery shown in video managed to avoid error message like this...

You can buy cheap timer to charge so you don't overcharge.

iRobot says to keep the Roomba 500 on the charging station when the Roomba is not being used. I take it this suggestion is only pertinent to the original NiMh battery but I'm not sure because it is never specifically clarified. It is my understanding that for a Lithium battery, it's not a good idea to keep it on the charger all the time. That is the advice that I've heard for say laptops like a MacBook Pro. It that advice holds true for a laptop with a lithium ion battery, why wouldn't that advice also hold true for a Roomba with A lithium ion battery. I've never heard anyone specifically address this battery maintenance issue with the Roomba. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

if these Li-on batteries have a good BMS (battery management system) built in, the battery will self disconnect from the charger to protect the battery from over charging. and a good laptop will do the same. the laptop will run off of the power supply and not charge the battery anymore. if the battery drops charge over months of no use, the laptop will re-connect and top up the battery.

@@warrenspink990 for laptops, I was referring the scenario where the laptop is completely OFF, and not being used. Fully OFF; not merely in sleep mode. And while being off, it is plugged in to the power supply. I compromised the battery life of my last MacBook Pro and I think that must have been the reason. The tech guy at Apple thought this probably was the case. I’ve abandoned this 😃 routine and try to keep the battery close to 50% and only plug the thing in when absolutely necessary based on my use patterns and where I am. The battery health of the new battery is good and degrading at a slow to normal rate. As far as my Roomba with the retrofitted LIon battery, I don’t think this battery is behaving properly. If I leave it on the charger it starts freaking out after awhile and starts beeping and flashing various shades of red. If I take it off the charger it seems to not have enough juice when I try and use it. I may need to experiment with a workaround. Say leave it on the charger, wait until it is ‘green’ for awhile, then take it off and wait a few hours use the Roomba and see what happens.

I have got Roomba 600 Series. (Roomba 620 exactly) I have bought this Li-Ion battery 14,4V 4400mAh Now (after one month) Roomba shows Charging Error. I have checked the voltage (load by 10ohm resistor) and it has 16.89V !!!!!!! Be carefully what are you buying.

You are charging a lithium battery with a ni-cad charger thats why

I have the same error message with homemade battery (took 8 cells 18650 from dead laptop and BMS board), it occurs when overvoltage protection of BMS disconnects battery terminals. I'm not particularly happy with it as battery is not fully charged. More correct way would be to lower current while maintaining 16,8 volts. Roomba instead keeps constant current up to 21 volt! That's why protection takes action. But overall it works fine, I had 2,5 hours runtime even with that highly used batteries. So don't worry about that error too much. It's safe.

FYI the Roomba gearbox is not designed for such a long run time! You will eventually overheat the gears and they will melt the gearbox case where the gear bushings are set in to ,especially as Roomba still have not been able to keep hair and dust out of it,this will add to the build up of heat,sorry but you are going to kill your vacuum running it so long and bear in mind there are very advanced electronics in it and there is NO fan to cool them!

The roomba has a timer; it doesn't run forever on a single session.

Don't run it for 4 hrs straight, run it for 2 hrs, empty the dust, rest it for 15, then go for another 2 hrs. This battery still helps, no need to wait 6 hrs between charges

I instrumented my 560 with 8 thermocouples and a datalogger per your concerns. The highest internal temperatures after 3hrs and 45 minutes when it stopped was 62deg c with a 28deg c ambient. There is no risk of damage to anything at that temperature.

There are a hundred video's that show amp hours and voltage but you cant find one that shows this stuff so well presented and simply explained, took me days to find this. You didn't even grasp about the timer in the machine protecting it, and the batteries are meant to be an upgrade which is why Li-Po was invented and is used extensively. The battery reset procedure is important. I'm guessing you think the earth is flat as well.
