Yes, he plays guitar, banjo, and slide guitar. Listen to his first, couple of solo records. They're DIY and great. You'll see his musical prowess shine beautifully.

Absolutely amazing..That said,I do prefer this song with him alone..Listen to 'live on kexp' version & decide for yourself...Saw him in Ft. Lauderdale last month in a solo gig...He did this song which led me here as had never heard it...He's up there with the folk/ rock greats who in my book are: Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, old Dylan to name a few...

I really do like this song, but I think that going with a constant piano presence throughout this rendition (especially the first two verses) sort of removed the dark tension from this song. It's supposed to be a really pent up, tense song with really dark overtones, but the piano sort of brings an unwanted brightness to the overall theme. Piano should have been used more sparingly, and the bari sax may have been a tad too loud for my taste. It's supposed to steal the show there, I know, but it just sort of felt a bit too overpowering to really fit with the rest of the tune.

Personally I think it's a nice counterpoint to the darkness coming from the other instruments.
