Halloween parties, piggy banks, planning childhood adventures on a map and counting cars passing by - all these little pedestrian moments that seem to mean nothing, but ultimately make up a life. Interesting to read how people have favourite parts of the lyrics. My heart always jumps in my chest when I hear: "Please, remember me Seldomly In the car behind the carnival My hand between your knees You turn from me And said 'The trapeze act was wonderful But never meant to last'" Especially "never meant to last" ... to me, it says something about learning to let go *especially* of the things we love and that we cling to. I did this starting on a Friday, come Monday morning the bottle had been turned. As for the second Wine Glass, it had a small amount of Wine in the bottom of the glass. Very strange but it had happened. The Spirit after death is very powerful, you must first be open to this all. Most importantly have accepted Jesus Christ, as your Lord and saviour. The Trapeze Swinger Iron & Wine Please, remember me Happily By the rosebush laughing With bruises on my chin The time when We counted every black car passing Your house beneath the hill And up until Someone caught us in the kitchen With maps, a mountain range, A piggy bank A vision too removed to mention But Please, remember me Fondly I heard from someone you're still pretty And then They went on to say That the pearly gates Had some eloquent graffiti Like 'We'll meet again' And 'Fuck the man' And 'Tell my mother not to worry' And angels with their gray Handshakes Were always done in such a hurry And Please, remember me At Halloween Making fools of all the neighbors Our faces painted white By midnight We'd forgotten one another And when the morning came I was ashamed Only now it seems so silly That season left the world And then returned And now you're lit up by the city So Please, remember me Mistakenly In the window of the tallest tower call Then pass us by But much too high To see the empty road at happy hour Leave and resonate Just like the gates Around the holy kingdom With words like 'Lost and Found' and 'Don't Look Down' And 'Someone Save Temptation' And Please, remember me As in the dream We had as rug-burned babies Among the fallen trees And fast asleep Aside the lions and the ladies That called you what you like And even might Give a gift for your behavior A fleeting chance to see A trapeze Swing as high as any savior But Please, remember me My misery And how it lost me all I wanted Those dogs that love the rain And chasing trains The colored birds above there running In circles round the well And where it spells On the wall behind St. Peter's So bright with cinder gray And spray paint 'Who the hell can see forever?' And Please, remember me Seldomly In the car behind the carnival My hand between your knees You turn from me And said 'The trapeze act was wonderful But never meant to last' The clown that passed Saw me just come up with anger When it filled with circus dogs The parking lot Had an element of danger So Please, remember me Finally And all my uphill clawing My dear But if I make The pearly gates Do my best to make a drawing Of G-d and Lucifer A boy and girl An angel kissing on a sinner A monkey and a man A marching band All around the frightened trapeze swingers

"Parting ways.. Like you're not headed that way soon.. Like the student has now become the incorrigible and the master now the inconsolable. Rice grows, we grow. The barren bush spots the bird faster. The fallen tree makes a fire. Warmth chasing the gripping cold away. The choking smoke. The wrecking sadness. The last straw sharing a glass of milk. Begging for mercy. God isn't a genie. Mankind was a compound word." ,dan'

It’s the wind instrument at the end that gets me. Think it’s a recorder. Used to play that in school. It’s a nice finish to a sublime song
@vermaledeit17993 жыл бұрын
what does a recorder look like?! always wondered...*haha
@lyletuck3 жыл бұрын
@@vermaledeit1799 It looks a bit like a clarinet, but it functions much more like a simple flute. It has no keys and no reed.

“The Trapeze Swinger” is about a man standing in line at the gates of the afterlife, taking inventory of his memories and telling the people involved in them how he hopes to be remembered. He alternates between this and describing the setting around him, presumably Heaven. The stream of disconnected memories culminates in the last stanza, when the narrator declares that if he ever makes it to the gate, he’ll sketch the people that he’s been thinking of on the wall. They’ll be marching in a circus around himself, the overwhelmed trapeze swinger. Beam’s idyllic lyricism and subtle instrumentation combine to make a powerful metaphor about the impermanence of a life and a person’s desire to be remembered in spite of it.

What the hell is a sweet 15? That's not a thing in the real world (America), where God actually pays attention. It's a sweet 16.
@noahnewsom74246 жыл бұрын
john wrath well I don't want to assume anything, but his name does have a Hispanic origin. So maybe his girlfriend had a quincera. Which is the fifteenth birthday. That's just an assumption.

Yeah you're extremely lucky if you get one of these perfectly macabre songs. Everyone can identify with "by the rosebush laughing" . Gosh makes you want to double over and cry every time. I don't really, but I could imagine one may feel that way if so inclined.

I saw him play this song at a chapel at Hope college, close to ten years ago. There was a blizzard that night and it was extremely cold. We stood outside the chapel for over an hour before they let us in. We got to sit in the front pew, and put our wet socks and frozen feet next to the radiator. When he sang "They went on to say that the pearly gates had some eloquent graffiti, like 'We'll meet again' and 'Fuck the man..." everyone cheered.
