Bro I am in this business since long. As per my opinion you can mount wooden molding on steel door frame with some different way. We prefer to fix it on the wall instead of the steel frame. you just need to over lap molding upon the steel door frame less than half inch. In this way the screws are drilled in wall with the help of nylon anchors. so you get a better and bigger look of your door frame. Must try , you would not be disappointed.

Cost wise choukat for wood is way cheaper than metal in my place. 7.2ft by 5 ft choukat for wood ( dendrocalamus wood so no worries for termites or other) cost 2500 rupees. But for iron the rectangle pipes only will cost 4000 appx ( for the same size as wood) without Mistry charge.
