@@LicksOfTheBeast I think I read that the album just has a really big, full sound, with keyboards, that they don't think they can replicate well live. (I read it online, of course, so grain of salt.) I wish they'd do it anyway. Just think what they could do with three guitars!
@LicksOfTheBeast3 жыл бұрын
@@emilyinoregon6967 That album does have a very unique sound but so does Seventh Son and they pulled that off phenomenally well on the Maiden England tour (some songs sounded maybe even better than the original tour!) I think the bigger problem is that SIT is made up of very particular sounding songs that don't blend very well with most of the other material - especially not on a big stage. I think the pacing would clash the most... Also, I don't know how Bruce would pull off that material live nowadays as it's all belting with very little breathing... It was hard enough for him to do in '86 and as awesome as he is today, I doubt he'd pull it off. Then again... Bruce is one of those people that decides they're gonna do something and they do it so you never know with that guy 😂
@tomdurkin51493 жыл бұрын
I think Rod got a little flak for not recording and putting out a live video release of that tour didn't he? 😂 I remember Bruce was really sick too on some of those shows and couldn't sing but they went ahead and didn't cancel. Such a shame they didn't put out an official live release of that tour. I actually went to the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland back in 2013 and they had Bruce's leather jacket there with the light up tubing and the pumping heart. Naturally I got a photo taken next to it and that's as close as I'm likely to get to meeting Bruce and experiencing the SIT tour up close and personal 😆

This is a great example of how many changes you can fit into a five minute track yet keep it consistent and flowing. The listener is taken on a fantastic journey of melody and metal. I realise that this is an adrian track but Steve should go back and listen to some of these and realise that, just because you come up with a great piece of music you don't have to repeat it eight times within a track to make the most of it. Sometimes it's best to surprise the listener, keep it tighter and let them want to go back and listen to the track eight times instead to capture everything they may have missed.

@@LicksOfTheBeast Exactly! It just pulls the listener in. It's filled with nuances, different even conflicting moods and colours. Wished the band hadn't ignored this album this much when it comes to setlists. IMO not only Maiden but many other subgenres owe a lot to this album. I mean this is such a huge turning point for Maiden (and I'm not really talking about the synth) that we can still see the effects. I believe without SIT the modern (?) Maiden either would not exist or would exist in a very different way.

@@FatemeKhodayari it's definitely an important transition album in the same sense as Piece of Mind and X Factor. I could listen to him play two notes forever.

And his Lado Earth guitar is so freaking cool. :) Loved Adrian's later work with Bruce on Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding. Adrian's the heaviest and most modern of the three Maiden guitarists with the coolest licks. Janick is probably the fastest. And Dave has the smoothest tone and legato.

It's near impossible to come up with the words to convey how timeless (no pun intended) and ethereal this track is, there is none other like it. I really neglected the earlier stuff and the only song from SiT I had heard was Wasted Years as it was popular, and being shared a lot on downloading sites. Eventually I bit the bullet and listened to al lathe albums, back to back, in order to find out everything I had missed out on. Sea of Madness was the first song title I came across that I didn’t recognise. It absolutely blew me away! Amazing standout track from what became probably my favourite Iron Maiden album from the golden era. Out of all the Iron Maiden songs ive learnt i would still consider this one the hardest to nail down, i still cant play the solo 100% and when learning that main riff, i had to go through tabs with some weird ass phrasing and note placements in the completely wrong positions on the neck. Infact your 2 videos helped me a lot when it came to understanding what they are playing. Absolute powerhouse of a song, smack-bang between fantasy driven power rock and '80s metal. It's really interesting to me that Adrian and Phil Collen have history before Ade went to Maiden and Collen went to Def Leppard. Adrian's input and output on this album shows their similarities in taste, style and tone. That might be why Adrian didn't write solo for Maiden again after that, it might be why he left to do his own rock projects four years later - wanting to take the musical direction that Maiden didn't want to take. Somewhere in Time is a very confident and direct album considering that it was very experimental for them, though, which makes it surprising that they don't rate it as highly as others.

What's funny about this song is, the very first time I heard Bruce's Trumpets Of Jericho the fade out towards the end where he's singing the "Still the walls remain" line reminded me a lot of the ending of this song where he keeps singing "of madness". Ah man I thought the exact same thing the first time I heard that song! 😄

@@LicksOfTheBeast this is great! You're literally the only other person I've spoken to who's agreed with me. I love how you pointed out Bruce's delivery is literally a pentatonic run down. Simple but effective. I guess there's a good reason it's the very first scale most of us guitarists learn 😂 I love the way Bruce fades that one out on the Scream For Me Brazil album. Hoping to see you delve into some of his solo stuff at some point man 🤞

I love this breakdown. I'm a drummer so I'm only getting some of this technically, but I get it conceptually. I also love that you shine a light on SOM because I do think it's one of their best overlooked songs. And underneath all of this Nicko is putting on a masterful display of his single-pedal footwork.

One of my favorite songs as well! Very dynamic, it has quite a few nuances and vibes! That final riff at the end… has always reminded me of the main riff for Total Eclipse! It’s so powerful!! Lovely videos, Nico! All intricacies thoroughly reviewed and brilliantly executed! Cheers!

Great as always! Do you intend to do a video about "Deja Vu"? We played that one in our band many years ago and I'd be interested how wrong we played it ;)

Hahahahaha well... This is my favourite album so I could talk about all these songs for hours. If the interest is there I will gladly do one for each song!

Excellent video, Nico! I'm so glad to see this song get some love. This standout song is what makes Somewhere In Time one of my favorite albums. I would say this is my second favorite on the album after Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner. I wish I knew why they quit playing this song live. It's such a gem and a shame they don't put this song in their live rotation. I get it, they have so many songs to choose from, but this one is really one of the best they ever produced IMO. Keep it up, Nico!

1000 thanks!! Loneliness is definitely another big one for me on that album... Then again, it's my favourite album so there's that 😄

What a very interesting upload! Not only your brillant playthrough, but also your explanations, wich gives me a very special insight to this song. The main Riff is really an earthshaker, perhaps one of Maidens most heavy one. The chorus Riff is also one of maidens best riffs, wich reminds me of the verse riff of Total Eclipse. Very powerful, pushing forward. I also love the chorus wich is well composed, not only repeating the song title like Heaven Can Wait or Caught Somewhere In Time. Its like a song within a song. Magic and eery. My second favourite from Somewhere In Time and definitely one of my personal top ten Maiden Songs. Thank you very much for your Videos. Up The Irons :-)

I'm with you, the pre-chorus lick it's one of the main reasons why I love this song. Thanks for breaking it down.

Amazing video just as usual, would love to see more videos like this one Would also love hearing about what songs are your favorites from every album and what songs you would want them to play live (preferrably songs that they play rarely or never)

Thank you and yes, I will definitely be doing a lot more like this and hopefully they'll just get better! I like the favourite songs idea 😊

Can you do a video about the guitar synths used on this album?
@ImproveYourMagic5 ай бұрын
I think one big reason they dropped the song is because of the vocal chorus. I just watched live videos from 1986 and Bruce was great. But on the CD, the Chorus sounds so Full, Grand, & Epic because of the backup singing. In 1986, SIT was my 1st Maiden cassette.Then I got the rest. The 1st tour I saw was the 7th Son of a 7th son tour.
