This is not a song that you can judge on just this song it is part of a concept album and we you need to hear the whole story, you are trying to judge a book by picking a chapter out of the middle of the book, you need to listen to the whole of Seventh Son of Seventh Son.

Can't agree more. And I know that I might be in a tiny minority here but when listening to a Maiden song for the first time, you have to hear the studio version because of the musical complexity being drown out in a live setting. Listen to the studio version and then you can enjoy the live version even more.
@BlackieNuff6 жыл бұрын
If one were to pick just one song out of a concept album (a 'chapter' out of a 'book'), there are plenty better selections than TETMD from this album... imho...
@radicalstanza36146 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is. Every song on there is a standalone track. Read Bruce's autobiography -- while he tried to stick to somewhat of a thematic throughline, Steve Harris didn't, and the album is no more of a concept record than their other works despite the myth perpetuated by so many of their fans.

Lol. I love Vin. I really do. They really need to not take lyrics so literally all the time. Abstract, guys. And this is the best example of why you don't take a single song out of a concept album and try to break the song down as a stand alone idea. Its only a piece of the whole and the ideas in it contribute to the rest. Can't think of a single idea in this song that can stand on its own and be understood as intended without the context of the rest of the album. Totally missed the idea of the song, even as straight forward a title seems.

Iron Maiden's mascot : Eddie The Head (pronounced as a Brit = Eddie The`ed) Named after an old joke : Once was a boy named Eddie, who was born without a body - just a head, so he was nicknamed "Eddie The Head". Despite his abnormality, his family always showed him much love and attention, and always got loads of presents on his birthday and Christmas. One year, as another birthday approached, Eddie's doctors contacted his parents, and informed them that science and technology finally allowed for them to build Eddie a body. His parents were so excited, they couldn't wait to tell Eddie, but decided to give him the good news on his birthday. So his birthday comes, and his parents are just giddy with excitement. They come into his room and say, "Hello, Eddie... we have quite a surprise for your birthday this year, you're going to absolutely love it..." And Eddie rolls his eyes and says, "Ohhhh no... not another fuckin HAT!!" :-D

Its fantastic that you have discovered the mighty Iron Maiden and have become a genuine fan during your metal odyssey one band that you seemed to have missed along the way is a band called Thin Lizzy from the emerald isle who were saying their goodbyes before Maiden hit their stride and became the mega stars they are today the song i would love to hear is "The Legend Of The Black Rose" live from their farewell tour of 1983, sadly the lead singer Phil Lynott passed away a few years later. I remember watching a documentary about old school metal and someone who was something of a metal guru compared the similarity of the bands in the way their riffs stick in the memory Thin Lizzy were more hard rock than metal and it has taken me quite some time to realise just how right he was.

Iron Maiden songs are very rarely to be taken literally. They are either part of an overall concept of the album or just pure fantastical storytelling, like 'Number of the Beast' is. This song is from my favourite Maiden album 'Seventh Son of a Seventh Son'; a heavily conceptual piece about prophecies and wizards and all kinds of mystical going-on.
