I'm wondering the same. It's been blocking one side of the crusher for no obvious reason

It's lowered to prevent the cone from spinning, and wear.

@@Stefan_Boerjesson thousands of tons of rock pass through, but the tyre prevents wear? Doesn't look like a manufacturer supplied accessory to me. And why has it not been there for always? The plot thickens! 😁

@@SoldOnSoul Sometimes it's active, down and stoppin the spinning. When down there it might causes blockage. Sure it wears but it's likely a dismissed dumper wheel.

In my opinion they are running the cone to fast. When there is no friction the cone starts rotating way to fast. And they dont actually need the fast pace of that rotor. They cant even supply it fast enough to keep it busy even its running at halve the speed. Less wear and no need for the tire.
