Nice summary. I had a blast too. I was mentally prepared for the weather, but not physically, or should I say, I didn’t have the right clothes. I am skinny, so I froze before the swim and when I got in the water felt great, so I warmed up. Then I only wore a sleeveless tri suit on the bike with no gloves or socks. I crashed hard at mile 30 because I had my head down and sunk my wheel in a crack. No biggie fortunately, just some major road rash. It was a good bike with a good power number, but I over-biked for the weather. I started shaking in transition and my fingers didn’t even work, so I struggled. I had no clothes for the run, so I imploded on the first mile and I simply couldn’t get my legs going before going into hypothermia. I was so annoyed because I had all the right stuff in my car, but I didn’t think the conditions would worsen the way they did. It got real bad. I tried to warm in a boardwalk portajohn, but the shaking became uncontrollable and I didn’t want my wife to have to go to the hospital so I withdrew and the EMTs were able to get me warm in about an hour. It was freakn great! I can’t wait till next year!

Thanks for sharing and hope you are recovered from that bike crash. It was one of those races where most people were not exactly prepared. It made Kona seem easy, lol. I think the smartest athlete was the one that wore his wetsuit on the bike. Im in for next year too but I am def going to be prepared in a totally diff way. Whats your next race?

@@MarniOnTheMove maybe happy valley. I enjoyed that one. Sticking with 70.3’s next year. I’ll be back for Jones Beach! Maybe full in 2025.
