Hi! Not sure if you're already doing this step, but to avoid redrawing particular panels and/or entire pages, try making storyboards first, then go with the actual final page! In Japan some mangaka do the storyboard twice this way: The first one is called "Name no Name", and you can visualise it as the sketch of the storyboard but much smaller. For example if you're standard final storyboard is in an A5 or A6 format, in the Name no Name you use an entire A4 and divide it in 8 parts, which corresponds to an A7. They usually decide how to design the panels for either the entire chapter, position speech bubbles/balloon, and ultra simple poses as mannequins or stickman with just the name on them. Once this is done, they start working on the Name (the actual standard storyboard they end up showing to the editors before drawing and inking the final pages), and usually, depending on the scene, they don't do too many changes unless asked or needed.

For your paper, the best thing you can use is Bristol Smooth 300 (or higher) series. It can be quite expensive, but there are cheap versions available from other brands which should suffice! It'll handle your inks better, won't crease, and will also scan better too. Good luck! I also want to make a trad-drawn graphic novel this year. Digital is fine, but we need some more trad artists in the mix, keep at it!

@@RaeJacksonArt Thanks a lot for the tips, man! I was actually using 300 smooth for commission art, and it looked great. For this manga, I thought it would work too since there are going to be a lot of pages, but it didn’t quite turn out how I hoped. I already have the first three pages drawn, so I’ve decided to finish those on that paper. For the next pages, I’ll switch to thicker paper. Good luck with your novel, and thanks again for stopping by and sharing your advice!

@vrh_art Haha yeah one big thing I've learned in my 10 years of art is: paper matters MORE than most other things with trad work. Get good paper and it'll work with just about anything. Get bad paper, and even the best products can look bad. Thank you!

You're doing great! If possible, I recommend switching to making it digitally at some point, as it's more efficient and most pros do it like that nowadays. (It's actually cheaper in the long run too) - As for doing it traditionally, I can recommend using another paper under your hand to have a cleaner page and avoid pencil smudging. Make sure to let the ink dry where it needs to. - You should also use whiteout for certain things to bring out some forms and have more clarity. You can observe how mangaka use white lines for that purpose. - Also, you can make the lines in the back thinner to help create a sense of space. I hope this was helpful and wish you all the best
