Thank you for re-kindling my fond memories of our 2 years on the rock. Jr. High for me, but plenty to do, and the wonderful outdoors at our doorstep. My dad was the Chief at the armory, and we had many great adventures while there.

A kid there from '85 to '88. A lot of videos of us when we were there. For us, it was the best place on earth. so much freedom, safety and commendatory, something I wish my own kids could know.

My dad was stationed here in the 80s. I loved it! I rode my bike everywhere, made snow (really it was ice) forts, went on hikes, we had family fishing trips, went to the bonfire parties on 4th of July, and my favorite was a midnight curfew in the summer.

I was stationed at Adak from 91 to 93 at the ASWOC. My wife was stationed at NSGA. I hated it when I got there, having a 4X4 helped a lot. Staying busy with the outdoors and having hobbies made it a great experience. I miss it now.

I was stationed there 1976-1977. Hated it when I arrived but at the end of my tour I was really sad about leaving. Met a lot of good people there and made a lot of friends. I was a Radioman and it as really nice seeing the building I worked in. Thanks for the post, it brought back a lot of memories.

Believe me we were there. We were in the building right across from the barracks. The building with no windows? That's where we worked. We also had a site at the bottom of Mt Moffett along with the Coast Guard.

Also when I was there, it changed from a COMMSTA to A NAVSECGRUACT and everyone there became Plank Owners and received a nice citation. I still have mine after all these years.

Lol, all the people who remember Adak fondly are insane. That island is pure hell on earth. If you miss Adak so much just sit in a tub of ice with the shower on cold, in the dark, with a dead fish in your lap and blow high pressure air into your face . That would only be about halfway there though. The government should have to compensate every service family that had to suffer that evil place. Especially pre 80's. Adak for two years is a lifetimes worth of nightmare fuel.
