@teachmepersonalfinance5 күн бұрын
You would use IRS Form 4506-T for your transcripts. You can use 1 form for multiple years, but there are limitations. Tax return transcripts and records of account (combined tax returns and account transcripts) are available for the current year and 3 prior years. Informational returns, such as Form 1099, W-2, or 1098 series, are available for up to 10 years. You may need to send multiple requests in certain cases.

I appreciate your knowledge and how you broke everything down. Question, can you use this form to obtain any 1099-A forms that were filed on the US PERSON, such as it was filed by the dealership or by a mortgage company and sent to the IRS without you knowing any better and they are trying to force you to pay them twice when they were paid already with the blank indorsement check that was signed at the time of either closing on the mortgage or driving the car out the dealer lot?
@teachmepersonalfinance7 ай бұрын
To my knowledge, everything that I've found on the IRS website says that you should contact the filer to request a corrected copy of Form 1099-A. You MAY be able to use IRS Form 4506-T to request a tax transcript (see links below). According to the IRS, you can use IRS Form 4506-T to request a 'Wage and Income transcript.' A wage and income transcript should allow you to see copies of information returns that were filed with your tax ID (W-2, 1098, 1099, etc). This doesn't specify Form 1099-A, but indicates that this is the general category of information forms that you can obtain a record for. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe this is your best bet: IRS Form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return Article: www.teachmepersonalfinance.com/irs-form-4506-t-instructions/ Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qavYZ5KZfZqEprs

Trying to get my deceased father W-2 or tax transcript from 1950s, was told to do form 4506-T should I do form 8822?
@teachmepersonalfinance Жыл бұрын
You may need to contact the IRS about this. You wouldn't be able to use IRS Form 8822, since your father cannot give you power of attorney privileges. Form 4506-T will help you get tax transcripts for up to 3 prior tax years, but probably won't help you get tax transcripts from the 50s. However, the IRS probably won't talk with you about options unless you're able to prove executorship of your father's estate, or that you are a representative. You may need to file IRS Form 56, Fiduciary Relationship, before you get information. However, before filling out the form, you should call the IRS to see whether getting your father's tax records is possible, and what information you are able to obtain. If you end up needing to file Form 56, here are some resources: Article: www.teachmepersonalfinance.com/irs-form-56-instructions/ Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fILLkoqlnLKcj8U

Since Box 8 doesn't distinguish between Forms W-2, 1099, 1098, or 5498, I would make this clear by indicating 1099 in Box 6 (as long as you're not trying to get information from other forms at the same time), then check Box 8.

There is not a cost to receive tax transcripts. If you need an actual tax return, that would require a fee for each requested return, as well as a different form: IRS Form 4506, Request for Copy of Tax Return Article: www.teachmepersonalfinance.com/irs-form-4506-instructions/ Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2eqdWSgbL-aeNE

Which box do we check that shows the return itself? Need to identify years not filed Thanks
@teachmepersonalfinance Жыл бұрын
You would file this tax form to obtain a tax return transcript, not the tax return itself. If you still believe this is the correct form, you would specify the type of tax return on Line 6. However, if you want to identify years not filed, you might have better luck creating a log in on the IRS website, then reviewing the tax information there. It should be fairly simple to notice missing tax years on your account.

@teachmepersonalfinance11 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, there is no way to submit Form 4506-T online. According to the instructions: Mail or fax Form 4506-T to the address below for the state you lived in, or the state your business was in, when that return was filed. There are two address charts: one for individual transcripts (Form 1040 series and Form W-2) and one for all other transcripts. With that said, you can create an online IRS account and request your tax transcripts online through that account without filing Form 4506-T: www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
@Brando5509 ай бұрын
You say that this is the form you use for getting a W-2, but why does it say in the "Caution:" of line 8 that you need to submit a 4506 to get the W-2? Do I fill out a 4506-T or a 4506 to get my W-2?
@teachmepersonalfinance9 ай бұрын
Good question.I believe the Caution field states: If you need a copy of Form W-2 or Form 1099, you should first contact the payer. *To get a copy of the Form W-2 or Form 1099 filed with your return,* you must use Form 4506 and request a copy of your return, which includes all attachments. In other words, if you wanted just the information from your W-2, you can request the tax transcript using IRS Form 4506-T (tax transcript is not the same as the actual W-2). If you wanted the *actual* W-2 that was filed with your tax return, then you would have to file IRS Form 4506 and pay the applicable fee (see below). @teachmepersonalfinance10 ай бұрын
You can get an unmasked transcript from the IRS, but filing Form 4506-T will likely get you the masked version. You may want to specifically call and request one from the IRS. Before you do, you should know what the IRS will, and will not do. Internal Revenue Manual 21.2.3.5.9.2.1 covers this. For example, they will only provide a wage and income transcript under certain conditions. www.irs.gov/irm/part21/irm_21-002-003r#idm139985110714400 If you don't get what you need when talking with the IRS, you can also see whether getting your transcript through your online IRS account could help. If I'm requesting a verification of non-filing letter, should I leave #6 where they want to know which form I want blank?
@teachmepersonalfinance Жыл бұрын
As an individual, I'd be inclined to put in Form 1040, as this might help in a manual process of verifying that the requestor is an individual, instead of another tax entity, such as a corporation or a partnership. However, looking at the Internal Revenue Manual, it appears that this might be a moot point...the primary concern is whether or not you check the box in #7.

Most likely, your financial institution would be requesting your tax information through IVES (Income Verification Express Service). IVES allows participants, mortgage lenders, banks, credit unions and others, request taxpayer authorization for the IRS to provide tax transcripts and wage statements in the loan application process, while protecting your sensitive information.
