Iryninsky Cathedral in the city of Kyiv. It was founded in 1037 during the reign of Yaroslav the Wise. Both churches were built in honor of their patrons, Yaroslav himself, whose baptismal name was George, and his wife Ingigerda, whose baptismal name was Irina. "The Tale of Timeless Years" tells us about the St. George's and Irynyn's monasteries, which were located next to Saint Sophia and were the first monastic complexes in the development of Kyiv. The Iryninsky Cathedral was located on the corner of modern Iryninsky and Volodymyrskaya streets. During the Batiev invasion in 1240, the church was destroyed. Its ruins stood until the 17th century, and in that century, in order to strengthen the city with ramparts, they were covered with earth. In 1833-1835, the ruins of the temple were excavated by Kindrat Lokhvytskyi. He also found fragments of mosaics, stone products, and a copper panicadillo. Among the remains of the decor found during the excavations of the Iryninsk church, a large fragment of a slate plate depicting a warrior with a shield kneeling on one knee attracts attention. The research materials of the remains of the church according to Vahryn, which were carried out in 1913-1914, made it possible to imagine the cathedral in the form of a five-nave, three-apsed, cross-domed structure, with a tower in the northwestern part. On the site of the church, in 1852, the Iryninsky monument, which was also called the Iryninsky pillar, was made of old bricks. In March 1932, the Irininsky pillar was destroyed by workers of the communal farm. @UGF
