Is a 5000LB WINCH too much for my Honda Pioneer??

In this video, I install a 5000 lb winch on the front of our Honda. I need this winch to lift and lower my plow but I also need pulling power to help move trees, logs, or even the Honda at times. SuperATV.com sent me the largest winch they make! Will it be too much winch for the Honda to handle?

Can I just say how much I appreciate that you show things not always going smoothly? As a relatively new homesteader, when plans *don't* come together as slickly as I might hope, it's really reassuring to know that someone who has a lot more experience in what we're doing still has the ocasional hiccup in course of their projects. I bulit a whole replacement bumper with 2 3/8" tow hooks to snatch block to an it has a 5k winch but I built everything around the winch lol. I also put a 2" receiver in the front also

Troy because of you, we ended up buying a 2021 Honda 1000-5 and so far this machine did great in our property . You are right about the accelerator pedal a bit touchy due to the dual clutch transmission rather than CVT models. Excellent videos buddy keep up the good work I watch you on a regular basis excellent information as always. Thank you again

You may want to put a strap on the rear of the Honda to use as a way to anchor the Honda to a tree if you were to use the wrench to pull out a stuck tractor or some other objects that may be heavier than the Honda. Less wear and tear on the Hondas brakes and transmission. Just a thought.

I switched from cable to rope about 10 years ago on my Jeep's winch. I have been happy with it. As noted the rope is not real abrasion resistant and you have to watch rub points. It is however way lighter and easier to pull around than cable. Also you don't have the risk factor of the rope whipping back at you if it should break. It just falls to the ground.

I would recommend the second battery with anything extra installed. The DCT trans is electric without a second battery you take to much from the DCT.

Yes. Even if your vehicle is caked in mud and stuck in mud at a drastic angle it's too much. Lol. Plus it takes more energy and wears down the battery faster. I have the Honda Pioneer 1000 5 EPS.

Are you familiar with the movie "The Gods must be crazy?" There is a scene where the winch on the Range Rover lifts it up into a tree. 5,000 lbs should be able to duplicate that.

I have just purchased a 2021honda Pioneer 1000-5. I am installing an aux battery. I also plan to install a winch, 52” light bar, two LED back up lights, with room for additional accessories. My question: should these items be powered by the aux or main battery? Or both?

Hey Troy, love the channel. I have a pioneer too. If your planning on running much more than the winch (light bar, pods) you will want to install a dual battery setup. The clutches on the pioneer require a certain amount of voltage to operate smoothly.

Not just a second battery, but the TruAM isolator. It ensures your accessories won't drag down the primary battery if, by chance, you drag down the auxiliary (second) battery.

The remote should have batteries in it.. You need to push both buttons at the same time to turn it on and off
