Got me an SE custom 24 in blue burst about a year ago. Sounds good, plays nice (especially after I set it up the way I like it) Unfortunately, I missed the sale but that's not a big deal. Nice guitars for not a bank breaking experience. Good video with lots of humor.

For the money they're really rad. There's a little bit of a low end flub on the rhythm that's not as clear as the American 85/15s but for 679 it's as good as you'll ever find and it still rocks

I must confess that I have been a guitar snob for many many years. I used to walk by the SE guitars without a second thought to grab the core models. I have owned many core models both CE 24 and custom 24. I have never played a bad one. I picked up one of these swamp ash specials and I could not believe the quality of this guitar for that price. I bought one immediately. These guitars play and sound phenomenal. I just wished that PRS had installed locking tuners on the guitar, which I did. They are really, really awesome guitars the quality is top notch. The fretwork is as good as it gets.

I put like 800 in parts into my SE swamp ash special for a future video. SEs are cheap enough where if you don't like the tuners just change em! I'm with you, I'm blown away by the quality.

That thing sounds epic! Enjoy it! And btw, what about the nail biter where you’re removing the guitar and blow a gasket (or 30, lol) as you notice a bazillion things that are wrong with the guitar?! Call it a QC issue or shipping damage, but it sucks to have to ship these things back - especially the part where you have to figure out how to cram everything back into the shipping box and then gotta drag it to a shipping hub for pickup! Argh! My poor friend just got an Epiphone Slash J-45. It’s beautiful, but the case has a defect right near the Epiphone logo. Worst yet, the guitar’s nut and/or saddle are adjusted too low so nearly every string is buzzing whether open or fretted, and one of the Grover tuners seems to turn far too easily (even after she tried to tighten it). She’s gonna be calling in the morning to handle it, but she’s dreading having to ship it back - and having to wait until they either fix the guitar or give her a new one (because she paid for a setup, it takes extra time). Yep, all the stresses of getting new guitars. Good thing it all worked out for you, but not before you had 20 heart attacks and you had an argument with your wife! But hopefully all the sweet Swamp-Ashy music is making it all worthwhile.

I love the new SE 24 quilt in purple. I'm a huge fan of ebony fretboards and glad to see PRS has one that's not equipped with a Floyd. Love my current SE 24 but it has rosewood. Adding the model with the ebony board to the arsenal would be sweet.

Your wife's experience also goes to prove people will be going nuts over this guitar so I hope PRS fans will grab one soon while they are on this crazy sale. I just got the Iri blue one today directly from my local store. I had a PRS EG-2 HSH bolt on in the 90s with the Fralin single in the middle, the 8 switch tones was great fun. The switching here has less options than the EG-2 but covers most of the practical tones we'd actually use. The AS-01 nails it.

​@@TheNeuroticGuitarist It occurs to me the AS-01 is kind of a cross between AlNiCo and CuNiFe, we only miss the copper (Cu) which was only added originally to make the material soft enough to work with, and steel is basically iron (Fe). The As-01 is AlNiCoFe. Maybe why this single coil sounds so "Fendery". And look a the size of those slugs too, almost Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound sized.

The jury was still out for me on the validity of the SAS. Likely because of the HSH configuration more than the pups themselves. But...considering the newness of the SAS vs the time worn play on the Custom 24, then factoring in the 1/10th buy in....the differences for an average chops player like me is so minimal it really isn't a factor. And really, a $10k axe had better have a whole lot sharper edge to it than a $900 one. Now, would I actually buy one based on this very well done test? Meh, not given my existing 3 PRS's (SE Custom 24, SE Hollowbody II P, and S2 McCarty Thinline) now. Nor would I trade one of mine for it. But I would say the same about the Semi Hollow, and I could never justify the Vintage Custom. But that was one helluva big eye opener. Nicely done man!

It's TOTALLY green. The joke for it looking like my eyes is that they're legally "green." I just shot a review of this guitar against the Ce semi hollow with 85/15s and an 86 custom 24 with t and bs. That's my actual personality when I'm amped up. I've been playing heavy metal since I was 13 so I'm super loud and then I dj on top of that so amplify my loud. Some people don't resonate with it at all. Like my parents or my wife 🤪 but it seems as if a lot of people like my neurosis. I've definitely dialed it in a lot more. Before I was yelling, loud, angrier and dark. Came off crappy even to me. But yeah man, that's just me. I can be quiet and chill, too, but that's just not what makes it to video. Curious to your thoughts on the neck. That was my big hangup with both the SE silver sky and the SAS the thin satin finish felt to coarse for my hands and really slowed me down. I loved the Fiorre's satin neck because it was way smoother than the SE maple necks

This is way smoother imo. But you gotta feel for yourself because I also don't think the neck is that fat but I handed it to my buddy cory and he immediately said it was too chunky. Maple is a fickle beast

@TheNeuroticGuitarist well I tend to love the old wide-thin neck carves. For me the finish was just a little too thin. It's a little frustrating because I love the satin mahogany neck on the SE Myers. That might be one of my favorite necks (2nd only to my 07 tremonti). Other than that complaint I think PRS is killing it with the SE lines right now.

How different is this from the Fiore (Mark Lettieri sig model)? (yes HSH vs HSS and colors but otherwise) It's pretty. If I didn't have a few ash strat analogues already and wasn't currently upset with PRS I'd probably have a Fiore by now and one of these too. They are amazingly spec'd and brilliantly finished instruments and I like passive electronics so there's nothing about this that isn't great.

Did you get rid of your oiginal Swamp Ash? This obviously is not on the same level as the original version. How do they compare? This guitar sounds pretty thin to me. No meat. Sure it's a pretty guitar and I'm sure the neck feels good, but the sound is so important

I don't have the original anymore. It wasn't one of my favorite PRS'. It's interesting you say thin because to me it's a little flubby in the low end. I'm thinking about doing a video of this vs the core CE hollowbody which has the US 85/15. See how the pickups compare because I love that CE. It's 100% amazing for the price, but the pickups are not as good as the US by any means. I'd also be interested to compare it to one of my 86s that has reap T and B pickups which are what rhe 85/15 is a iteration of. Def on the docket.

Mine came in weighing 9 lbs. 9 ounces, out of the box action way to low. On day two strings were buzzing and also found a spot on neck that was not sanded down smooth. Fret board edges are not rolled at all. Hunk of junk is going back. I will stick with the USA made S2s that I own which are excellent. You get what you pay for!

Do yourself the biggest favour possible take some time save up the loot and then get that guitar if that’s the one you really want man. It really is a very nice looking guitar and the sound is real sweet as well. That alnico pickup sounds really creamy and I’d love to hear that with some really heavy old school distortion. I’d like to hear the alnico and the bridge humbucker together with distortion. That guitar is definitely worth that money, I’m really liking everything about it and $675 😊 I live in Canada so here it would probably be about $850? Canadian all in and Even at that price I would still buy it with those features it’s really a nice guitar for that Amount of cash. just give it a good setup and I’d say you have a great playing guitar that’s good in any situation and looks sweet for life.

Don’t worry about getting a big buck$ guitar to start out with anyways, best to see if you truly love doing it before investing a lot of money on something you may never really use. That being said if you think you are into it and it sounds like you are, you should definitely give it a shot. I’ve been playing for 38 years now and own over a dozen guitars and a few really good amps ( Marshall , Peavy , Orange and a few others of smaller size ) also 13 guitars I’ve collected over the years. It is without question one of the greatest things I ever did for myself and it’s the greatest hobby in the world even if you never get really serious about it just do it for fun ! That is what’s going to keep you doing it long term. For a first guitar I would consider getting a pawnshop Fender Squire Stratocaster , you can probably find one for about $100-150 and it will be a comfortable guitar that plays well and stays in tune fairly well also. Just take someone that knows a bit about guitars with you when you go shopping looking to make sure you get a good one. All the best bro and welcome to being a new guitarist! It’s super fun and interesting as well. Start slow and practice lots , don’t get discouraged if progress is a bit slow at first , just keep playing and most importantly have fun with your new hobby ! 🙂

Yes, I believe any PRS is an excellent guitar for the money, except those 9 to 15 thousand wood library ones or whatever their called. The SE n S2 or CE or the 4 to 6 thousand customs are much better then the Gibsons and Fenders in the same price range.
