A report by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons shows spending on such munitions has ballooned.
Nearly $100 billion has been spent by the world's nine nuclear-armed nations in a single year.
Nuclear warhead stockpiles have reduced since the peak of the Cold War.
But new soaring expenditure begs the questions, why are these countries willing to spend such incredible sums of money on atomic weapons, and are they making the world any safer?

@@jesusk1358 What do you think is the point? For most nuclear armed states it is a deterrent from other nuclear states. The conflicts continue but in lateral moves, no direct armed conflict. Nuclear states most definitely can lose in conflicts, they can go bankrupt, everything can happen to them as to any other state. But to become aggressive to your neighbors, go on campaigns of disinformation, assassination, talk of invasions, threats of use of nuclear weapons to achieve political goals? That is a rogue state. To concede to threats will just encourage more bad behavior, a larger cadre of extremists, the only answer is to impose costs to their actions. Timidity and half measures will not do anything but create a narrative of weakness and that their authoritarian way is better. By allowing too many acts to go unanswered or with a weak response the problem grows to a scale that is more costly and dangerous to confront. But concessions are even more dangerous. That is the point that should be made.

I have had two dreams over and over one where I am running in the woods and there's planes flying over, old planes not jets but they are Chinese and there's thousands upon thousands of Chinese soldiers parachuting in and I get run into a battalion of Chinese soldiers and I wake up. The other dream is i am at home with my mom one of boyfriends, my wife and one of my kids and alarms start sounding, message comes across tv/phones that Nuclear war has broken out and there atleast 6 thousands nukes heading to The US and my family and i are seeing these nukes fly over than one veers and starts to drop in our area we all embrace each other tightly as it falls not even a mile away and it hits the ground with a large boom and that's it. Nothing happens except the sky is an odd orange color. We all went back in and i cooked a good pork chop dinner

Using $$$ to make Military assessments is at best, the best way to make the wrong assessments. Russia for instance, has access to Natural Resources needed to make and develop Nuclear devices, for whatever use, and which means the spending would be considerably lower than that of the USA. The effectiveness and range of Nukes could easily be far greater than that of the USA, since the USA likes to spend gazillions of $$$ for relatively inexpensive components, and all that goes into products...any type of product, it is the "spending amount what determines revenue in the USA"...so even ammo, which China can make for cents on the dollar, same quality, huge quantities more than USA output, applies in the same example...the reason why China, and Russia have advantages often ignored by Occident, and in the case of Nuclear capacity, development and design...Russia and China combined, have knowledge, expertise and a number of people exceeding the Billion which can contribute directly or indirectly to the whole process involved in Nuclear Power, weapons and for Energy purposes. On the other hand, well, I guess the Israel factor is a great way to explain "why" the USA is diminishing its ability to "create/develop" Nuclear related devices...since that field would be considered to be a National Security field/industry and Israel is a condition to work for the Government, and the way Israel uses military power against Palestine is perhaps the greatest detrimental element which negates the USA the benefit of its multicultural Population, on top we have the Israel Lobby calling the shots in the US Government, that means anyone working in the interests of the USA would be automatically working for Israel, which puts its interests before those of Americans...the $$$ then is greatly misleading as a parameter of assessment in anything regarding Military capacity...It varies greatly depending of nation, culture and Civilization's particulars.
