I own both, 92' 964 and and a 96' 993 turbo and both are great in their own right. The 964 feels 'smaller' and a bit more raw ( which I like ) and the 993 I think it's the best looking 911 design, drives smooth as butter and just the right size..

Also a stock 964 C4 and ‘97 993TT (converted to RWD) owner here. Both are great but obvious which I’d keep if I need to make a decision.

Nice. I've a 1996 993 C2 iris blue metallic, 66,000 miles, 6-speed manny tranny, varioram, LSD. No CEL, no oil leaks. Multi-show full-concours winner. I do my own maintenance. I'm never selling it.

Thank you for your honest review. The 993 is a better car and far more reliable. The 964 was made from part bins and when I test drove one with only 28,000 Mi on it, it felt it, both door window switches broke at the same time! And throughout the test drive I could hear the valves slapping! This experience hastened my decision to pick up a 993!

I own the fraternal twin not the identical twin to this car. Exterior color including Kinesis wheels is the same but interior I have changed out stock seats for Recaros. I’ve owned several air cooled 911’s over the years and the 993 is the ultimate. I can’t see ever selling it. And the front styling took some getting used to. I’ve always preferred the styling of earlier 911’s. I’ve since come to appreciate the 993 look and find it just as beautiful as G-body 911’s. Nice review of an amazing car.

You can argue about the front end but the 993 ass is much better looking than 964. I really loved the 964 until I saw one in the flesh. That very narrow, sloped rear is so underwhelming on 964. However the Turbo model is a different story with the fat ass. It looks amazing. The Bad Boys car. I drive a 996 and can't afford either but just my 2c. PS: What is the color of this 993? Looks amazing in blue.

Luckily I've had both, a 1990 964 Carrera 4 and a 1996 Carrera 2. Both lovely cars, but I must admit to finding the 993 to be a little bit more forgiving in the corners. Mine is a later 'Varioram' model, but, having driven both, there really isn't much in it performance wise. I have to say that I do love Tony Hatter and Harm Legay's slightly 'tweaked' styling upgrades over the 964. However, they are both classic examples of the last air-cooled 911s and I love them both. I think that the 964 was the last of the "hand built" air cooled cars, and took a lot of the tech from the 959, they introduced more automation into the 993

You are 100% wrong. 993 was built with the exact same method as 964 and it's just as hand made. Only when Boxter and 996 came, Porsche got a new production line. There's a lot of information about this. Porsche consulted Toyota before the Boxter/996 production launched.

You are correct. 993s and Boxsters were built side by side on the production line. Just look at the model years available for the cars. 964s are technically the last “hand built” cars.
