Great info, i love how you don't only explain the procedure, but the reasoning behind it as well. Quick question: how long do you wait for the SAB to settle?

Great video! I got the 115-quart tub for extra room, such as G2G or bag transfers. ✌🏼♡︎ ✿

Even if you have a laminar flow device there is still use for an SAB. It can be used to work tammed plates if youre trying to save a culture. You would never want to work a tammed culture in front of air flow. There will always be use for an SAB in this hobby. That being said, an SAB fails in most all metrics compared to a laminar flow device, FFU, or BBFFU (especially any of these with an actual hood implement): comfort, maneuverability, tam rate, et al. By no means would I say an SAB is as good as, but it will definitely get the job done if you cannot afford to purchase/make one of the aforementioned devices. Good suggestions in the video though, Im sure they will help a lot of people getting started.

I'll take a SAB over a BBFFU everyday. Not messing with a sporenado.

@@Stay.Shroomy Im quite the opposite, I much prefer the ease of use with a BBFFU, its almost zero tam rate (with good sterile technique), and complete freedom of movement. Im assuming the sporenado comment is in reference to it not being laminar flow? You do know thats an old wives tale that laminar flow is needed for what we do, right? Most, if not all professional FFUs are not laminar flow. Even the coveted Enviromac 10 "Mac-10" is not laminar flow, and those are the standard, even in the industrial mushroom trade. All thats needed is adequate filtration, and constant positive pressure across your workspace. The BBFFU accomplishes that, in a 20"x20" format. Might not to the level of a professional 2'x2' or 2'x4' FFU, as you have to work much closer to the filter. But for $50 worth of materials, a 10min build time, and so easy to construct my child has made one, its the bees knees for hundreds of amateur cultivators in our community. If I misunderstood your sporenado comment, and youre specifically referencing working tammed plates, I agree. I would never work tammed plates in front of any airflow device. Thats why I mentioned the SAB will always have its place in this hobby. However, 99% of the time Im not working tams. Due to the BBFFUs efficacy (and good sterile tek) it is a rarity for an LC or agar puck to have contamination. Its ease of storage is quite nice as well. I loath having to pull that SAB out of the closet to try and save a dirty plate someone sent. I, like you, have a huge one, and I have to play Tetris to store and retrieve it from my limited closet space. To each their own though.

I thought I would be okay without one. 10 contaminated agar plates later, I know now that I know nothing. There's that much mould just floating around in my house., how horrifying. I know it's natural but damn.

No but for another 50 bucks you can make a tub a laminar flow unit. What I don't like about sab is I can't see through them clearly
