I appreciated this. I’m a professional violinist (though really a violist at heart). It was somehow refreshing to hear put into words and spoken out loud this feeling that I just always think I play badly and everyone else thinks I play badly and that every time I play I have to prove that I’m not. I’ve never heard someone else articulate my exact experience like that. Do you think most people feel this way? I really thought it was something that I was weird for feeling. But maybe that’s how everyone feels? I’m working on not wrapping up my identity in my playing which is helping, but it’s really sabotaged my ability to enjoy being a musician to the point that sometimes all I want is just to get out of the field. Came here after listening to your dry bar set which I absolutely loved :)

I have no way of knowing if you are a good violist but I can say for sure that you are an excellent actor, writer, and director. So, if the viola and comedy don't work out you'll have any of those three things to fall back on! I wish I could buy stock in you.

Ah yes... the practice room torture... so painful - with impossible hopes & dreams. I have a hard time explaining to people how I grew to hate the Back cantatas... after years of practice room torture. I'm afraid I never got over it either... as I envied folk and rock musicians who never have to do things like that. I finally just gave up and went into illustrating children's books at home alone instead... which comes with it's own set of artistic challenges. But one of these days I'll open up my viola case again... I'm sure... probably... lol!
